Who
We Are
Marine Wildlife Watch of the
Philippines (MWWP) is a non-profit, non-stock organization that was
established
on December 9, 2009. It was founded by Dr. A.A. Yaptinchay. Dr.
Yaptingchay is
a veterinarian specializing in marine mammals. He also has a degree in
aquatic
ecology. He has worked with the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources
(DENR) and with World Wide Fund Philippines (WWF). He also has stakes
in some
profit tour agencies wherein his job is to design tours for marine
wildlife appreciation
and conservation.
The purpose of the
organization is to support the conservation of
marine animals in the country. The organization through different
communication
media aims to spread information about why the conservation of marine
animals is
important in our society. It also aims to show people how to conserve
through
education, seminars, campaigns, projects, events, and other activities
related
to the mission of the organization. The organization also encourages
people to
appreciate and care for the marine environment since this is the
habitat of all
marine animals, and they are dependent to it. What affects the marine
environment will definitely have an effect to the animals living in it.
The
organization aims to conserve all marine animals; however it focuses
its effort
more on those animals that are endangered such as the whales, dolphins,
dugongs, sea turtles, and sharks. These animals are more prone to be
endangered
because of their valuable fins and meat. There are thousands of people
in the
world who are willing to pay a huge amount of money just to have a
piece of the
mentioned endangered animals above.
