The Greening - Part I
In the spring of 2005, Owen and I decided that we need flowers. Lots of flowers. Roses, lilacs, lilies ... bring'em on. We're ready. Well we were ready to plant. What we didn't count on was how bad our soil is. In addition to the well-known rockiness, the dirt is clay. When dry, it's rocklike. Water doesn't penetrate easily and when it does, it becomes quicksand, smothering the roots of everything planted in it. But we don't give up easily. Gardens are, by their very nature, a work in progress ... but here are pictures from year 1 of our  garden.
