KAC DRAFT DAY COMMENTARY...

  1. SAN DIEGO: ELI MANNING QB - Reluctantly held up the jersey, but not the hat. In an ensuing interview basically reiterated what had been said through his dad. More to come I'm sure.

  2. OAKLAND: ROBERT GALLERY OT - I had Roy Williams, but this is not a shocker and probably the BPA. Bad news for Williams however who probably falls to #8 or #9.

  3. ARIZONA: LARRY FITZGERALD WR - Why wasn't Fitz at the podium?? Josh McCown now becomes a big-time fantasy football sleeper. In four of the first five weeks he has St. Louis, Atlanta, New Orleans and San Francisco, with Fitz AND Anquan Boldin in tow. Now the real suspense starts with the Giants

  4. NY GIANTS: PHILIP RIVERS QB - Well, I called that one - Rivers would be called before BR. Rivers (at home w/family) looked happy, but I think he's waiting for a call from the Chargers.

  5. WASHINGTON: SEAN TAYLOR S - For some reason, ESPN kept thinking they were going to take K2. Within five seconds no one will be talking about it however bacause...

TRADE: Rivers to San Diego for Manning. It is also announced that SD will get from NYG a third this year, AND a first and third next year. Ernie Accorsi would say in a TV interview later on that it was in fact a first and FIFTH in 2005. It does not sound popular in New York while the Chargers suddenly smell like a rose while all the pressure is now on Manning.

  6. CLEVELAND (FROM DETROIT): KELLEN WINSLOW TE - Browns unexpectedly trade up to get K2, whom the Lions supposedly coveted. The move increases Jeff Garcia's fantasy value somewhat.

  7. DETROIT: ROY WILLIAMS WR - Was not expecting this pairing, but I can't fault the Lions after Roy slips this far. Joey Harrington now has no excuses left. Now Detroit needs Chris Perry to fall to Round 2, where the Lions now have consecutive picks at #36/#37.

  8. ATLANTA: DEANGELO HALL CB - This draft hasn't made a left turn yet, Michael Vick gets his wish.

  9. JACKSONVILLE: REGGIE WILLIAMS WR - There's the left turn, Jags should had traded down. Good news for Byron Leftwich, not good news for the 49ers or Kenechi Udeze.

  10. HOUSTON: DUNTA ROBINSON CB - Called that one, wonder how many offers the Texans got for this pick?? The next 15 minutes are nervous time for Roethlisberger.

  11. PITTSBURGH: BEN ROETHLISBERGER QB - He didn't have to wait 15, Steelers jump all over him. I say BR starts by mid-season.

  12. NY JETS: JONATHAN VILMA LB - Even the Jet fans love it!!! Kiper says they should had traded down, but I don't think the team could risk it.

  13. BUFFALO: LEE EVANS - Way earlier than projected but a definite need. If they really needed a RB they could had waited till this year and taken Steve Jackson.

  14. CHICAGO: TOMMIE HARRIS - The three-technique run begins, not a surprise with Lovie Smith as coach.

  15. TAMPA BAY: MICHAEL CLAYTON - A huge left turn, these receivers are going much earlier than anticipated. Wilfork or Stephen Jackson seemed like better possibilities. There will be backfield issues with Michael Pittman facing suspension.

  16. PHILADELPHIA (from San Francisco): SHAWN ANDREWS OT - Now this thing is finally going off-road with a major curveball, though Stephen Jackson would had been better if you're trading up. Reports are that Andrews got up to 401 pounds since the end of the season.

  17. DENVER: D.J. WILLIAMS LB - Wonder how Steve Jackson feels about playing for Parcells???

  18. NEW ORLEANS: WILL SMITH - Like I say, you never know what the Saints are going to do. Pass up on a glaring need at corner, but get a steal with Smith.

  19. MIAMI (from Minnesota): VERNON CAREY G - With Andrews off the board, Carey becomes option B and not a bad one.

  20. MINNESOTA: KENECHI UDEZE DE - Vikings trade down a spot, then get a big-time steal. Not good news for NFC Central foes.

  21. NEW ENGLAND: VINCE WILFORK DT - The last of the Hurricanes, and a dandy pick for the Pats, Wilfork should be a perfect fit.

  22. BUFFALO (from Dallas): J.P. LOSMAN QB - Didn't see this one coming. Guess Parcells likes Chris Perry in Round 2 better. Losers in this deal include S-Jax (sliding further than anyone imagined) along with the Packers, providing they were interested in JPL.

  23. SEATTLE: MARCUS TUBBS DT - I had Randy Starks myself, so this wasn't far off the mark.

  24. ST LOUIS: STEPHEN JACKSON RB - Second longest the draft has ever gone without a back being selected. But with Marshall Faulk around, it will be a year or two before he makes an impact.

  25. GREEN BAY: AHMAD CARROLL CB - Great pick getting Batman over Chris Gamble, now the team can afford to ditch Mike McKenzie.

  26. CINCINNATI: CHRIS PERRY RB - Bengals pick up Deltha O'Neil and some picks while trading down twice, then get a back who will be groomed behind Rudi Johnson. Kevin Jones could be in for a far bigger slide than anyone imagined.

  27. HOUSTON (from Tennessee): JASON BABIN DE - Texans trade up and get more defense.

  28. CAROLINA (from San Francisco): CHRIS GAMBLE CB - Niners trade out again, and as expected Panthers take a CB.

  29. ATLANTA (from Indianapolis): MICHAEL JENKINS WR - Everyone is seemingly trading out, Falcons get some much needed receiver help.

  30. DETROIT (from Kansas City): KEVIN JONES RB - Jones doesn't slip too much, as the Lions trade up and solve their final skill position.

  31. SAN FRANCISCO: RASHAUN WOODS WR - Niners fill their biggest need after trading down twice, good work.

  32. NEW ENGLAND: BEN WATSON TE - Pats score huge on both picks.
