We left Philly later than we wanted and had snow ALL the way UP to Boston. What a pain! Thank goodness my speedy husband was driving or we would have missed GBS. Not used to their going on first. They were actually opening for the Pushstars! The set was furiously fast and way too short. Where I was in the back of the club, there were mostly Pushstars fans. They hadnt the foggiest idea who this band was and didnt care. But around the 3rd song in, when Bob finally started to look as though he might be having fun, comments heard were Hey, they are really good! Who are they? and they began to listen instead of shout over the music. My Boston University Band daughter, Heather, now appreciates why I like them so much. We picked her up at her dorm along the way. She said she enjoyed watching me groovin to their music and was impressed with their harmonies and musicianship especially Bob *grin*. My youngest daughter, Karen, whom we snuck in on her sisters B.U. ID spent a goodly amount of time looking for Hostage in B.C. (Actually Jenny in Boston). This perilous mission brought her very close to the front stage Darrell/Alan and she thoroughly enjoyed Alans antics. Finally heard Bob singing on his own during EndOfTheWorld/Ode To Joy. YIPPEE! *Melt*. Apparently they didnt include the encore on the webcast. They played only one (we really tried for another) and sang Excursion (go Darrell!) and Auntie Mary. Set list here:
No pics for this one, I'm afraid! They didn't allow cameras and even though we DID sneak one in, the photos were lousy! You'll just have to imagine them singing!
Donkey Riding When Im Up Cant Stop Fallin (this one got the Pushstars fans listening) Goin Up Boston & St. Johns Paddy Murphy Consequence Free Jack Hinks General Taylor (whoa! This was an experience, San holding mike in hand and really playing with the audience) Then there was a very short Sociable. The guys had run through the set so quickly it was good to catch their collective breaths. Old Black Rum Feel It Turn Im A Rover (At last Bob was finally enjoying what he does! He seemed to have a lot of fun doing this one, showing off a bit *grin*) Ode To Joy/End of the World (whoever would have thought how well these would go together?) Mari Mac Ordinary Day **************ENCORE******************* Excursion Round the Bay Auntie Mary
Somewhere in the middle of all this Bob was having a serious conversation with Alan about something. Bob looked like hed been having trouble all night with his earphones so I dont know if this was the topic. The sound was not great in the Ballroom either. I thought I was going to get blown away by Darrells bass several times, and at times the instruments totally obliterated their harmonies. For those of us who know the words, this is not a problem, but for the newly initiated it probably was. We stayed for the Pushstars, since Karen is a fan. She ended up being pulled onstage by Chris Trapper to strum his guitar while he played the frets. I just happened to look up when he said he was going to do this, and discovered my daughter on the stage! If they had invited her backstage, her mom would have had to tag along for her safety, haha. But this didnt happen, oh well. After the Pushstars set, Alan, Darrell, and San sang a song with them, Minnesota, I think. Bob was nowhere to be found. Sean was certainly having a good time dancing up on stage and Alan took on a verse by himself! After the show, we finally saw Hostage waiting in the lobby with Daffy. We ended up at Frans at midnight to join the Kitchen party and saw other OKP chatters there. Lets see if I can remember all who were there Fran, of course, Jenny, Daffy whose real name I cant remember, Em, Caroline, and uh oh, let's see. A countertop percher (Chriss) and the chocolate covered pretzel lady (Spinne)! It was fun to meet people in person. Thanks to Fran for inviting us. Well, got back to the hotel at 3:30 AM and crashed. Then on Saturday, hubby Vic fixed Heathers computer, we fed the dear girl breakfast and dinner and were on our way. Only took us 5 hours to get home, and no snow! Hope all enjoyed the Bowery on the 18th!
