| WOW ! WOW ! WOW ! This was the best show I have EVER attended! Jane in Virginia was right - they were UP for this one and in great form. This time I have exciting pre-show news for a change as well as post-show. We were set to meet at a Chinese restaurant around the corner from the Troc. Me, Vic, daughter Karen, my friend Tyra and hubby Mike , co-worker Charlotte and friend Rob, and possibly Shelly, Stacy, and Kim from Selinsgrove, PA. I work not too far from downtown and got there at about 4 PM. Went into the Troc to make sure my tickets were good - they were like vouchers! Girl at the booth said they looked fine and I asked her if the b'ys had arrived since I had a package for them with goodies in it. She says "No, they haven't arrived yet." So I go out the door and stare at a van with a trailer with Ontario plates on it. Hmmmmmm. Well, I turned right back in the door, asked her if she could deliver the package to someone who could give it to the band and I start to hear the opening sounds of Process Man ;o) . Made some excuse about it being too cold to wait outside for my friends and could I wait in the lobby? No problem, she says. SO I had a grand time listening to the sound check of the band that wasn't there yet. Bob on his fiddle began to play the tune from a song we used to sing in grade school. (When the girls in France do their hootchie cootchie dance...), Then he used every last one of his instruments to play the instrumental parts to Billy Peddle. I heard San speaking, then nothing...so I left after somebody ran out to move the van because it was about to get a ticket (parked too close to a fire hydrant). Went to the restaurant to get a table and was hanging out the door talking to my hubby (who was on the train) using our walkie talkies, when who is walking across the street but Darrell! In mid sentence I said to Vic, "Oh my goodness, it's Darrell! See you later." Followed him into a Chinese restaurant, shook his hand, told him how great the band is and the waiter comes over and says, "Would you like to sit here?" I giggled and said "I sure would, but this man needs to eat. He has to work hard tonight!" Darrell smiled and shook my hand again and said, "So we'll see you at the show, then?" I was floating on cloud nine as I went back. Then 45 minutes later when everyone else arrives, Darrell was just coming out of the restaurant. My daughter yells to the others, "Hey, there's Darrell" and he turns around and smiles and walks off. Dinner was good but too long. We rushed out to the Trocadero, where we saw Fran E., Caroline, Howard and Cheryl and Fran's friend Chris. |
| Actual review: Pushstars had an opening band from Philly who played 4 songs. I didn't particularly like them too much. The Pushstars were in fairly good form, but the audience obviously was there for GBS. Some of our GBS fans were too noisy during their set, like the Pushstars fans were toward GBS on Friday in Boston. This annoying guy was videotaping them from all angles. There were some annoying GBS fans who were quite drunk. Pleasant drunk, though, not mean. Danny hurried thru the set-up and then GBS was there! Opened with Donkey Ridin' and the place went wild. I think there were about 500-600 people there which is the largest venue they've done here as a headliner. Not bad considering their promoters in the area don't do much. Alan seemed particularly happy to be there. They were all grinning. Took Bob a bit to warm up but it's the most I have ever seen him smile! *melt* Vic tried out his new digital camera since mine wasn't working for the third concert in a row. It works in-between GBS concerts, you know ;o( He got a couple not too blurred, but great ones of after the concert, though! Set list as I jotted it down: *Donkey Ridin' *When I'm Up *Can't Stop Fallin' - Alan talked about the last show in Philly that was cancelled due to a hurricane in the fall. 'GBS live and no hurricane to be seen! Yeah, we were beginning to feel like the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse. " (It had rained 3 inches yesterday and there was all kinds of flooding this morning and I thought we were going to have a repeat of the fall) *Goin' Up - You see a theme there? UP, Falling, Up... *Boston and St. John's - GO ALAN! The famous "to the fairest one of all" came after the song. Boy, he certainly looked as if he were crying for real. What a ham! *Paddy Murphy with the now familiar, "Some of the girls got loaded drunk." And when they came to "Every man was feeling gay," Sean stops, looks at Alan who gives him a weak smile and then he looks at Bob, who shakes his head "no". LOL! After this, they announced that Philly was Number three in requests for the TURN album in the US. Yea, Philly!!! Thanks to Jane for providing the links. *Consequence Free - BOB SMILES a lot!!!!!!!!! Maybe he had a consequence free day... *I Wanna Be Sedated *Video Killed the Radio Star *Old Black Rum Somewhere around here, Alan is really playing up to the audience, making faces, moving around, and he does the raising the eyebrows faceseveral times in a rowthen he places his hand over his eyebrow and says, It just wont stay down! LOL! *General Taylor - So you guys attending concerts have been trying to describe THAT note. I can't, except at the end when he held it real long, Darrell's eyes got wider and wider. I guess he was running out of air! *Lukey - very spirited version, lots of "Vertical movement" on stage. At one point Alan lay down on the back speakers and caused his thingy to get unhooked in the back. Bob had a ball with that one. He was laughing at Alan and smiling the rest of the song. Then they were talking about how this is Friday for them (they have a day off tomorrow) and to tell Tony where a good place to hang out in Philly would be. Feel It Turn - GO SEAN! I always close my eyes when I listen *double melt*. Between San's voice and Bob's whistle *sigh* |
