| I am still glowing from the show at the Chameleon. What a great night! My kids tell me it's a great venue to see soon-to-be-popular punk bands. Maybe they thought Bob was still in a punk band! 8P At any rate, I started to write down the songs and I think I got them all, but sometimes you just have to respond to the music. I know you all know what I mean. As well as I can remember: Started with Ordinary Day - only Sean and Alan sang, Darrell was groovin' on the guitar. Donkey Riding - only bodhran accompaniment Billy Peddle, etc. Bob seemed grumpy but warmed up. Consequence Free - right before this, Alan was commenting on the disco ball on the ceiling and how he used to have one behind his fish tank in college and how it was supposed to make the girls go nuts, but it never worked. Sean asked "So how'd the fish make out?" "They made out more than me", says Alan. Boston & St. John's - nicely done, of course! Jolly Beggarman - Darrell's voice was incredible and the band just wailed! Tunez - Bob on the fiddle was next - I have no idea what tunes it was - on none of the albums, a treat for the ones who weathered the storm to get there. Old Black Rum - everyone really seemed to enjoy this one. Lots of dancing. Paddy Murphy - Sean was very personable and more dancing and "boppin'" Goin' Up was next - what a great kitchen party we had - we really shut the weather out, grabbed a chair and raised a jar! General Taylor - this song is one of my personal favorites and they sure sang it well! Lukey - another fave of mine Video Killed the Radio Star (believe it or not!) I'm a Rover - sounded better live than on the CD where I thought it was fine. This was better than fine. Whem I'm Up - Alan was soooo happy singing! Fast AS I Can - absolutely worth the price of admission. Downtown Girl??? - I have no idea! they started singing this song (it was good, by the way - very upbeat) then stopped suddenly with Alan and Sean explaining it was a song under construction, that's all the words they had right now, and how most bands sing their best polished songs but GBS goes one step further and polishes them on their audiences! (I don't mind being a guinea pig!) I found out later it is a Jim Fidler song. They sang others like Rhythm of the Goat, too! Buy his CD if you get the chance - it's wonderful. I got to meet the man in August 2000. Jolly Butcher - I was hoping they'd do it - they didn't at King of Prussia. It was the PG version - "So here's your friggin' change." Mari Mac - Bob must have had a devilish streak because he started out really fast and kept getting faster! Sean, God bless him, kept up very nicely! Auntie Mary - I'm so happy I finally heard what I've been hearing about in the chatroom. Very strange! Instrumental - I have no idea, but it certainly was nice to listen to. Rant & Roar intro to EndOfTheWorld Jakey - Bob's blue fiddle appeared - he seemed to have to adjust it in the beginning of the song, but it was fine after that. At some point Alan was babbling about how he liked Pennsylvania because nearby was a town called Doylestown and there is also Allentown. He went on about it for quite some time, just gushing with pride! I guess he hasn't found out about the town called Intercourse which is right down the road from Lancaster or Blue Ball for that matter. He also seemed to enjoy jumping on top of the stage "fence" and acting like a rock star! He commented several times about the Chameleon's set up with a mezzanine above the bar floor and how it made him feel like he was in the Muppet Theater with the 2 old guys heckling him. He was hoping that no one up there got angry at them and started to throw stuff down. Sean and Alan were wondering about the delectable delight a fan had sent - a local treat called shoo fly pie. They wondered out loud whether it had either shoes or insects in it or both. (It has neither) Hope they were brave enough to taste it! They had 2 encores (included above, I think) and everyone left in such a good mood. Darrell came out to meet and greet and later Alan. What nice guys they are - they took the time to speak to every single person who stayed to talk to them and carried on conversations with anyone who cared to speak. My daughter, who was wearing a KISS shirt (her favorite band) commented to Alan that she asked people in her KISS chatroom if anyone had heard of GBS. Several Canadian chatters said yes -they are good (GBS). She told Alan that when she types in "I want to be typo-free" the Canadian KISS fans type back -"Na na na na na nyana na na." Alan told her about the time they dressed up as KISS and sang KISS songs at a Halloween show. The picture is in the GBS Tourbook. It was great! Darrell was so genuinely personable, he might be the band's best ambassador! Sean and Bob had bugged out early - oh well - just have to shanghai them at another time! It was great to meet Shelly's sister, Stacy and her husband. Faces are now attached to names. This is good. |
