There are several dive sites in the Calgary region. Many of
these consist of community lakes, and are good for training but little else. A
few more interesting SCUBA sties also exist.
Community Lakes:
The following communities have lakes in which you can dive -
note that many of these communities require you to be a member of their
community associations to use their lakes:
Coral Springs Lakes: Located in north-west Calgary, this lake
is home to a small divers playground.
Sundance, Lake Chaparral, others. Located in south west
Calgary are several communities with small lakes. these lakes are commonly
used sites for dive training.
Bow River:
Most of the bow river is too fast an too shallow to dive.
However, near the zoo is a place known as the "hole". This is a deep spot in
the river when, at times of the year, it is safe to dive.
Forget-Me-Not Ponds:
Located at the end of highway 66, near Bragg Creek,
Forget-Me-Not ponds is a popular BBQ/night dive spot. The water is spring fed -
meaning it is nearly freezing, but clear as crystal. No a lot to see (beavers
if your lucky), but there isn't anything more relaxing then lying on the bottom
of the pond, and staring at the stars.
Bears Paw Dam:
The damming of the bow river has created a decent dive site near the damn.
once again not a lot to se, but there are a few places near the roads where you
can look for goodies.
