It was nearly impossible to comprehend that the two twin towers pictured so frequently elsewhere in this site were suddenly replaced by a cloud of thick acrid smoke which could be smelled for miles. |

| Later that afternoon, the wind brifely shifted to allow a first glimpse of the skyline with the twin towers hauntingly absent. | F-15s flying overhead became a regular sight. |
