| Then we went for a night hike with Howard as our guide. We were going to White House Ruins. Because there was a lot of moonlight(almost a full moon) we didn't have to use our flashlights that much. When we reached the ruins(they are high up on a cliff in the rocks) Howard told us the Indian Creation story and how his people(the Navajo) saw it. It was very nice to hear him say stuff I could relate to my hike in the Grand Canyon like the loneliness and being one with my mind, about positive and negative thinking. But we were all quite tired that day so sometimes it was hard to follow his story. After what seems like ages(it was only about a half hour) we went back up and back to the campground to sleep. Day 6 : 30/8/01 ==> Sunrise at Canyon de Chelly + drive to Monument Valley. Today I and a few others woke up very early to see the sunrise over Canyon de Chelly. It was an AWESOME sunrise. Afterwards we went back to camp and chilled out a bit. Some of the others went in the sweatlodge with Howard. I tried to catch some sleep in my tent. When the others came back from the sweatlodge they said it was a very good experience although in the beginning it was quite hard to get used to the intense heat. |
