Day 5 : 29/8/01 ==> Last look at the Grand Canyon + drive to Canyon de Chelly.
Today we drove from our camp at Tusayan to Desert View where we took a last look at the awesome Grand Canyon. Bought some souvenirs too at the local shop.
Drove through the Painted Desert towards the Tranding Post at the town of Hubble. Stayed there for quite a long time just browsing inside the store. Charlie bought a real cowboy hat and I bought a Dream Catcher for my little sister. The legend of the Dream Catcher is as follows : it's kind of a spiderweb with a hole in the middle where the indians placed a small rock. The dreams pass through the hole in the middle and the small rock catches (hence the name) the bad dreams and lets the good dreams pass. In the morning the Dream Catcher releases the bad dreams again when the wind blows through the open window.
We arrived late in the afternoon at Canyon de Chelly(pronounced Canyon de Shay). We stayed with Howard at the Spider Rock Campground. Howard is an 'old' Indian Storyteller we found out later. Put up camp and ate chicken burrito's with Howard. I ate on top of the van so I could see the sunset.
