Day 3: 27/8/01 ==> Drive to Grand Canyon and first glimpse.

On the way to the Grand Canyon we drove past a little place called Seligman.  It's one of those places where you still feel the vibe of the old ROUTE 66.  The drive to the Grand Canyon took us about 3 hours so we were there around 10 am.  Brooke parked the van and then we went to see the Grand Canyon.  But just before we would see it Brooke had a little surprise for us.  She told us to give each other a hand and close our eyes and to walk hand in hand to the edge.  Result : AWESOME first impression of the Canyon.  After taking another breather, we walked around the rim and took a lot of pictures.  I took almost a whole roll of film.  After that we went back out of the park to set up camp.  And then some of us went to the IMAX-movie about the Grand Canyon and the others(including me) went on a helicopter flight above the Canyon.  It was my very first time in a helicopter so I was a bit nervous, but as soon as we took off it disappeared very fast.  I thought it was going to be a rough ride but nothing of that.  There was no turbulence at all and we had the chance to take a lot of cool pictures and of course enjoy the scenery.
The price of 104$ was well spent.

By the time we got back to the camp it was time for dinner.  That day we ate rice with vegetables, peppers and chicken, it was very good.  After dinner we talked around the table and played some 'drunken games' and told each other riddles.  I went to my tent around 9.30pm because I wanted to get up at 4.45am to watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon.
