Day 4: 28/8/01 ==> Sunrise + Big Hike in the Canyon.
The sunrise was AMAZING, we stayed there almost an hour and then we were all warmed up to go hiking. The hike we were going to do is called the South Kaibab Trail. It was going to be a though one, and that's an understatement!!! We had to bring a lot of water with us because there wasn't going to be any on the trail and it was going to be very hot today.
The first few miles we went down in a group, but after the first stopover we splitted up. So me, Mandy(the other British Babe) and Ryohei walked together to the second stop called Skeleton Point. Mandy and Ryohei stopped there but I went further down alone. At the third stop I saw a lot of mules. They were carrying people up & down the trail. But I didn't stop there because I wanted to see the river, so I went further down into the Canyon. I hadn't seen anyone from the group since I passed the second stop, so I thought some of them were still in front of me. Just beyond the third stopover when I came around a bend I saw the Colorado River. And that's when I decided to go all the way to the bottom. On the way down I didn't see anyone of the group and later I heard they stopped at the third stopover. |
