London, November 8

Got up at a stupidly early hour because Lori and I both needed to be in London fairly early to meet people.  Chugg and Jez had already gone in, as Su had offered to drop them at the train station on her way to work.  We caught the 10:45 train to Victoria and Lori went off to meet Anita while I made my way to the coach station to buy my ticket home.  After standing in the massive queue I went to meet a friend for lunch, before hooking up with Su, who’d finished work and headed straight into town.  We had a wander up Oxford Street before meeting Lori and Anita and making our way over to Brixton about 6pm.

Once there, we went to the Beehive, the pub listed for the meetup, to get some food and were surprised by the number of people who came over asking if we were there for James.  I’m sorry if we were rude to anybody cause we were eating and were just too exhausted to be chatty.

We tried our best to make it over to see Exit 52, but ended up stood outside through it as there was a problem with all the various tickets and passes.  Su and Lori only ended up inside because Tim walked by, recognized them, and told the tour manager to let them in.

The gig itself, what can I say, the band had clearly pulled out all the stops.  They had the string section back, although it made little difference to the sound really, they also added “Stutter”, “Tomorrow” and “Come Home” to the set, with “Come Home” being an extra encore.  I was in heaven as “Tomorrow” is one of my all-time favourite James songs and I had been missing it.  There was a massive amount of energy both from the crowd and the band, with Tim climbing into the crowd during “She’s A Star” and then allowing two separate stage invasions.  The first, during “Laid” involved one guy getting on stage and standing there for a minute or so before he was thrown off.  Tim then pointed out that if you’re going to get on stage you’d better dance.  Then they allowed about 20 or 30 others up during “Ring the Bells.”  Apparently, Brian Eno was in the crowd, as Tim said he was “taking notes” for the album. When Su and I made our way to the back at the end of the show, there were people in the back desperately trying to dance like Tim, and weren’t making a bad job of it either.

We met John “Hugh Jears” Pude outside to sell some fanzines and then it was all over.  We went back to Su’s and went to sleep.  I caught the coach home in the morning, and oddly enough, so did half of Exit 52, who were sat right behind me.  I should point out to them, in case they read this, that they should really watch what they gossip about and how loudly in public places as you never know who might be sat near you within earshot...
