Eylem Kaftan graduated from Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey in 1998 with a degree in Philosophy. She finished her Master's degree in Film at York University in Toronto, Canada in 2000.
Ms. Kaftan has previously worked on short student video projects as cinematographer, editor, and actress. In 1999, her short film A Swan Story was featured in the International Women's Film Festival in Ankara, Turkey.
In 1999 when the earthquake hit her hometown, she volunteered in the relief aid, distributing supplies. She embarked on the film project, documenting the situation in Turkey following the earthquake.
She currently resides in Montreal, Canada.
