Vacation in Paradise

Big Island of Hawaii

The day that I took this picture, a pod of about 30 dolphins came into Honaunau Bay. The timing was just right. I was in the water and had a camera.

This is a great place to snorkel, scuba dive or swim. There are lots of fish as well as turtles and dolphins

These dolphins had come up for air and are headed back down.

This is Annie doing her thing.

No, this is not the catch of the day. It's a 5 pound Skipjack tuna we caught to use as live bait for the big ones. Since we didn't catch anything else, I guess it was the catch of the day.

This turtle had come up from the bottom for air and is just inches from the surface.

Ahh, it was a fine day at one of the nicest beaches anywhere. People have the right to public access at all of the beaches, even those in front of the big resorts. The resort at this beach north of Kona, has parking for 30 cars, first come first served.

We rented a kayak one day and crossed Kealakekua Bay where the British placed a Monument to Captain Cook, who was killed at this spot.

Flying through the water.

Annie at 2 Steps getting ready to slip into the water. The natural lava formation here has 2 nice flat steps that make it easy to get in and out of the water.

A daylight view from the  B & B where we stayed in June/July 2002.

And this is the view at sunset.

This group had just surfaced for air and are headed back down.

Bananas growing at the B&B we stayed at. We harvested some while there and they were delicious.
