Welcome to my tackroom, here you'll find everything from jumping saddles to medieval bridles, harness to halters, and everything in between.
The tackroom is split into sections, please click the links below to visit each part, then use the 'back to the tackroom index' link on the pages to come back here, or the links at the top of each page to move directly to one of the others.
I hope you enjoy looking at my home-made tack, why not have a go yourself?

Please note : I don't make tack to sell and don't do orders for anyone else.

Sharp scissors - for cutting leather into strips and shapes
Tougher scissors - for cutting wire, stiffer leather, and opening metal rings (by snipping on the join)
Needles - blunt and strong for real leather, sharp and thinner for fake leather, fabrics, ribbon etc.
Little metal rings - from old jewellery, chain, keyrings etc, for bits, headcollars, and making buckles
Thin wire - bits, making buckles, attaching things
Paper clips - the ideal wire for bit cheeks, stirrup irons and buckles
Tweezers - a mini version of saddler's clamps, for holding things in place and firm while stitching
Superglue - for cheating on very small fiddly bits and where you can't stitch - but mind your fingers!
Leather/fake leather - old handbags, cases, or bought offcuts from upholstery shops
Ribbon - ideal for halters, available in many colours and patterns, and you can buy small amounts at a time
Embroidery thread - for twisting into leadropes, also splitting into single threads and using to sew with...comes in hundreds of colours to match what you're stitching
Clear nail varnish - for sealing cuts ends of things that will fray, like ribbon and elastic
Brown and black paint or pens - for colouring the edges of fake leather if it's white inside
Snipe-nosed pliers - the pointy ones electricians use, for closing off metal rings and bending wire
String - for measuring lengths and tying things into shape while the glue sets
Horses! - you need a patient model to measure and fit the tack to while you're making it
Mini-Saddler's Toolkit
If you fancy having a go at making some tack for yourself, I'm afraid I can't offer instructions, as all my bits are one-offs designed in my mind, and explaining how I did them would be far too complicated...but here's a list of what I've used to make them. None of it is expensive to buy, I had nearly all of it just laying round the house anyway, and you can improvise with whatever you can find.
