�Wow, that was�� Lila cut herself off.
�I know,� Liz whispered. She briefly looked at Lila, but Lila was looking out the window.
�I can�t believe she just came out like that. You know, telling everyone she was�.She could lose her job!� Liz shook her head.
�Only if people complained.� They stared at each other briefly.
�She was talking about us,� Lila murmured quietly. Liz nodded.
�I know,� she looked out the window.
�Liz,� Lila started, not knowing what to say. Liz looked at her, straight at her, and for the first time, Lila could see the depth of Liz�s eyes. She could see the love pouring out of Liz. Love for her.
�We can�t go on like this,� Lila whispered. Liz looked at her fearfully. �We can�t. Liz, I love you. I love you so much�� Tears streaked down her face as her voice broke.
Liz tried to hold back a sob as she reached out and grabbed Lila�s hand.
�Do you mean it, Lila? Do you�love me?� Lila merely nodded, never breaking eye contact.
A single tear fell down Liz�s face as Lila gently wiped it away.
�You are the most important thing to me, sugar. You. I don�t give a fuck what people say.� She stroked Liz�s face. �My life�s empty without you.�
They kissed, their lips meeting urgently. They both felt the calm roll over them, with the realization that this was perfection. The kiss lengthened, neither managing satisfaction by the single encounter.
�It�s not about the sex, or gratification anymore,� Lila said, breaking the kiss. �It�s about pure love.�
�Oh god, Lila. I love you so much!� The tears fell quickly this time, as Lila stood to hold her lover. �You�re my sweet angel, Lila.�
Lila smiled brightly at that. No one had ever called her that.
�Ok, but, what about the others? What do we�?� Liz�s eyes searched Lila�s. Lila bit her lip.
�I guess�if we�re ready�we�ll have to come out.�
The silence that fell was daunting.
�DO we have to?� Liz whispered. She looked at Lila. �Yes, we do.�
Lila took a deep breath.
�The important thing is, we�ll be together. Once people realize they�ll�� Lila broke off, catching a glimpse at Liz�s smiling face.
�We�ll be the pioneers, Lila. We�ll show people that we�re the same people. It�s what Ms Dalton was talking about!� She smiled. �Not only do we go out there showing our love, but we show Sweet Valley there�s nothing wrong with us. We�re proud of who we are, and who we�re with.� Lila smiled in return.
�Ok, Liz.�
They both stood up, ready to leave the classroom.
�When?� Lila asked.
�Tomorrow. Tonight, we spend the night together. At my house.� Liz said, placing her arm around Lila as they walked towards the door.

�They�ll find out anyway��
They broke off before reaching the door and parted into their separated paths. Tomorrow, they�d come out. Today, they would say goodbye to their reputations.

Jessica picked up the hamburger and ravished it. She was so hungry. She stopped, seeing Cara�s eyes on her.
�I�ll go for an extra jog, alright?� She took a sip of her Diet Coke, before grabbing a handful of fries.
�Hello everybody!� Lila gracefully sat down, raising an eyebrow at Jessica�s disappearing plate. Jessica shrugged. She didn�t have to answer to them.
�What are you so happy about, Li?� Cara asked, shaking her orange juice. Lila smiled.
�I�m in love!� She smiled brightly at Jessica, before turning back to Cara. Jessica smiled with relief. They�d made up! Now Elizabeth would be happy and unlikely to kill her when she found out she�d been sleeping with her boyfriend.
�Ex, remember?� She told herself, taking another sip of Coke.
�You�re going to be too heavy to lift,� Amy warned, sitting down at the table with her lunch.
�Oh, Amy, you have to tell me! I heard about French class�� Jessica looked up. There was gossip she didn�t know about?
Amy looked at Lila before turning to Cara.
�Um, yeah. Ms Dalton is gay!� Cara gasped in shock.
�Really? No way! But didn�t she date your father?� She asked Lila. Lila shrugged.
�It happens, you know. Some people don�t know they are until they meet the right person.� Cara stared at Lila weirdly.
�Ok, Lila. Whatever you say,� she turned back to Amy.
�Lila�s in love!� Amy turned quickly to Lila. Lila looked away.
Jessica stopped eating. Okay, something really weird was going on here! She narrowed her eyes, but realized now was not the time to say anything.
�That�s great, Lila. Who�who is it?� Amy asked in a shaky voice.
�Yeah, who is it, lila?� Cara asked, eyes wide. Lila smirked.
�You will find out tomorrow. Anyway, I need a new outfit for tomorrow to show off my prize. Who�s up for a shopping trip?�
�Oh god, yes! I actually have money for a trip�� Cara started talking, drawing Lila into a lengthy conversation. Jessica picked at the remainder of her lunch. She�d been planning to ring the doctor�s again. But the doctor wouldn�t have the results for another day. This was so frustrating!
Jessica looked around the crowded lunch room. Everywhere, students were gossiping wildly, no doubt discussing the news about Ms Dalton.
Jessica knew why she did it. Somebody had to show Lila and Liz the way. But to actually come out yourself? Man, she had guts.
Jessica saw Liz sitting with Enid, Maria and Winston. She wrinkled her noise. Enid and Winston? Ugh, they belonged together. Jessica sighed. Why couldn�t she have a sweet relationship with a guy?
�Because you have a lot more fun sleeping with him!� She reminded herself.
And there he was. Todd Wilkins, with a group from the basketball team. Jessica smiled to herself. He was so hot!
Why she never saw it she didn�t know.
�But you did, remember?� She told herself. �At the beginning, you and Liz fought over him.� �And he chose Liz.�
�But he grew up. He wanted more. Something Liz wouldn�t give him.� With a quick glance at Lila, �Something she could never give him. But I can. And he finally came to me.�
�Hello? Space cadet?� Jessica blinked, only to see three eyes staring at her. She blushed.
�Um, yeah, shopping sounds like a cool idea,� she popped out. Lila nodded thoughtfully, turning to Amy, who shook her head. Jessica breathed out a sigh of relief. Tomorrow she would know what�s wrong, get some medicine, and then life could go on.

�Jump in, Enid, Jessica�s going shopping with Lila and Cara.� Liz opened the side door for her best friend, who jumped in quickly. They took off, listening to the local music station.
�SO, what happened?� Enid couldn�t hold it in any longer. Liz grinned.
�We made up. She told me she loved me,� Liz quickly looked over, smiling. Enid smiled back.
�I still can�t believe you�re�gay. I mean�� Liz smiled.
�I know. I didn�t believe it either. Not until�well, not until yesterday. I told myself it was just a phase. But it�s not. I love Lila!� Liz laughed, turning onto the main road. Enid smiled back.
�I�m happy for you, Liz. I haven�t seen you so happy since Jeffrey.� Liz smiled.
�He was special. One of the few guys I really cared about.� Enid caught the innuendo in her voice.
�Liz, did you ever�?� She left the question unanswered, realizing she didn�t want the answer. Liz looked back at her, and smiled.
�I�m glad you and Winston got your act together.� Enid smiled back.

�Oh my god, I don�t know what to get!� Lila shrieked, panicking. Cara and Jess rolled their eyes. They were used to Lila�s antics.
�Well, what�s mystery guy�s fave colour?� Cara said, admiring a silk scarf.
�Blue, I think,� Lila looked over at Jess, who nodded.
�Well, wear blue!� Lila rolled her eyes, walking over to the lingerie section. Jessica and Cara giggled before following her.
�Ok, I�m getting this!� Cara stopped after spotting a green summer dress. She looked at the tag, gasping.
�It�s my size!� Swiftly swiping it off the rack, she placed it into her arms and continued walking. Jessica tried to fight her nausea.
�This is it,� Lila announced. Jessica stared at it.
�um, Lila, you�re holding lingerie. I hope you�re going to wear something more dressy?� Jessica asked, holding back a giggle.
�Yeah, like a top and skirt?� Cara added. Lila stared at the delicate baby blue outfit, smiling.
�It�s perfect for tonigh�I�m done. Let�s go!� She marched off to the counter, leaving Cara and Jessica staring at each other wide-eyed.
Lila bought her purchases, reminding Cara to do the same before being arrested for shoplifting.
They walked out and parted. Cara left and Jessica and Lila continued to Lila�s car.
�Ok, Li, stop right there. You said tonight.� Lila kept walking.
�Yes, tonight. I�m going to spend the night at my girlfriend�s house.� Jessica tried to catch up, stopping when they reached the Triumph.
�You�re staying at our house? When my parents are home? What?� Lila stared straight at Jessica.
�We�re stopping at my house. I�m picking up a few things. We�re going to your place, I�ll stay for dinner. We�ll tell you parents and�I�m staying with Liz tonight.� She got into the car, impatiently waiting for jess to join her.
Jessica got in.
�Words are going to fly tonight,� she murmured as Lila started the car.
