Julie's 1993 Jeep Cherokee

Accident Scene

On December 18, 2001 Julie was coming in to San Angelo from Ballinger on Highway 67. About eight miles east of San Angelo, she was hit headon by 20-year-old Ty Jason Gregory. According to the DPS accident report, Gregory was first going west in the eastbound set of lanes then crossed the median and proceeded east in the westbound set of lanes, again going the wrong way, at which time he hit Julie. Both were killed instantly.

Quoted below is the newspaper article published Thursday, December 27, 2001 in The Ballinger Ledger.

"Local Woman Killed in Headon Collision on Hwy 67

Julie Elayne Richardson, 31, of Ballinger, was killed in a headon collision of two vehicles Tuesday night, December 18. Also killed in the accident was Ty Jason Gregory, 20, of Jayton. According to Department of Public Safety reports, Richardson was passing a vehicle to the left in a Jeep Cherokee in the westbound lanes of Highway 67 near Harriet. Gregory was eastbound in the same set of lanes in a Ford pickup and the two struck headon. After the impact, the front of Richardson's vehicle caught on fire. Both Richardson and Gregory were pronounced dead at the scene. Several beer cans were found in Gregory's truck, but DPS officers said they haven't made a determination whether alcohol was involved in the crash. Blood samples from both Gregory and Richardson were taken and sent to a lab for tests. Richardson had worked in nursing homes in the area, according to her family."

On June 18, 2002, exactly six months to the day of the accident, the final toxicology report was received. What this report revealed was that Ty Gregory was driving while under the influence of illegal drugs--Methamphetamines.
