Softly wings are flowing
Breezes through the air
Light of heaven shining
God's masterpiece to share

Gates of heaven open
With streams of light that show
Magnificence is captured here
Through portals love will flow
See the clouds are forming now
They gather like soft wings
As gently angels carry love
With every hymn we sing

Peaceful echoes sounding
With love that always chimes
Captured by the elegance
Of angels so divine
Hearts of love so cherished
Enter now with grace
Carried on the wings of peace
With smile that we embrace

Handed to our Father
With tender loving care
Brought to Him with tenderness
His Arms forever there.

Funeral services for Julie were held on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Ballinger. Rev. Jim Stephen officiated. Brother Jim is Julie's childhood pastor from First Baptist Church of Sonora, thus giving a very personal reflection to his words of comfort and faith. The church was filled to capacity, including the balcony. Julie would be thrilled at the hundreds of friends there for her and paying their respects--childhood and longtime friends, as well as many newer friends. Everyone commented on what a sweet, beautiful funeral it was. Her family was very pleased with this as we tried to make her sendoff to Heaven as beautiful as possible. The church was magnificent with Christmas decorations plus the beautiful array of floral arrangements on display in memory of Julie. She loved all flowers and plants and would have been overwhelmed at the many sent for her. Besides the ones on display at the church, there were many, many potted plants not taken there and also several arrangements were taken to the Ballinger nursing homes where Julie had worked and also to the San Angelo nursing home where she was currently employed. Funeral programs were printed with "God looked down over the country landscape and picked the most beautiful wildflower on the horizon for his heavenly bouquet, Our Julie" which was written by Julie's mother and was also the beginning of her obituary. Music selections were "Amazing Grace", "If Tomorrow Never Comes", "One Day at a Time", and "In the Arms of the Angels". Her casket was a beautiful ivory with oval insets of pink roses and was topped with a spray was of pink roses, blue delphinums, and daisies with a light, airy wildflower look she would have loved.
Interment followed in the Old Runnels Cemetery out of Ballinger. A long procession of cars winded the country road the three miles to the cemetery. This is a very old country cemetery with many Runnels County pioneers buried there. Julie loved this cemetery and had taken her Mom there on a couple of occasions to visit and read the headstones. There was no question as to where she would have wanted to be buried. It is a very quiet, peaceful place. Pallbearers travelled to the cemetery in two double cab white pickups. Julie would have been very pleased at having her brother-in-law, David; cousins Wally and Jason, and several longtime friends serving as her pallbearers. She would have approved their attire of freshly starched jeans, white shirts, and yellow rose buttonnaires. It was a warm sunny day for December which allowed friends and family to enjoy visiting at the cemetery.
Julie's resting place is a serene, pretty place at the very back of the cemetery. There is a mesquite tree at her feet and prickly pair and a pasture behind her. It is especially beautiful and peaceful at sunset. There are many things on her grave that people leave when they visit--flowers, cards, angels, and butterflies, which she loved. Brady enjoys going there and rearranging everything, which makes his little heart feel good. We hope to make it a special, peaceful place where we can all sit and reflect on our beautiful memories of our beautiful Julie.
