Julie's Dad Jerry
1984

Don't cry for me Dad, I see your tears
I know you can't see me, but I'm very near
Your second driver always there
In that purple Peterbilt truck with you each day
On the pillow where your grayed head lays
Holding your hand, stroking your hair
You and I--we were such a crazy pair
Joking and having so many, many good times
You made me laugh so much, Dad
I know you love me and you miss me so
And don't understand why I had to go
I'm with my Heavenly Father
But please remember you'll always be my Daddy
I was always a Daddy's girl
Oh, and on the road at night, Dad
when you see a shooting star think of me
And know we're not really apart
because I'm the angel in the other seat
The one who lives within your heart
I think of your hands, Dad
so calloused and steering-wheel worn
And know that one day I will
Be holding both God's hand and yours.
What a day of perfect joy
Oh, and one more thing, Dad---Please
Look out after my boy.

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain
The majesty of a tree
The warmth of a summer sun
The calm of a quiet sea
The generous soul of nature
The comforting arm of night
The wisdom of the ages
The power of the eagle's flight
The joy of a morning in spring
The faith of a mustard seed
The patience of eternity
The depth of a family need
When God combined these qualities
When three was nothing more to add
He knew his Masterpiece was complete
And so, he called it-----Dad.
