Sophie's pledges are:
-- more affordable, flexible childcare to help working mums and dads;
-- healthy and nutritious school meals - because mums and dads have enough on their plates without having to worry about what their children are having on theirs;
-- services to meet the needs of families in Cardiff - ensuring communities and our city centre are family-centred and family-friendly; and
-- a personal priority to end child poverty. Every child deserves an equal chance in life and child poverty is a scar on all of us
Sophie said: "As a working mum I know what a huge difference the Labour Assembly has made to parents and kids in Cardiff.
"Strong families will be at the centre of my campaign in Cardiff North because strong families make for strong and prosperous communities. The Labour Assembly is delivering progressive, positive policies for parents and children that are making a difference on the ground.
"I am relishing the prospect of taking my message out to the people of Cardiff North, because I want their support to fully eradicate child poverty, improve the standard of food in our schools, provide more affordable and flexible childcare and place the family at the heart of service delivery."
Sue Essex AM said: "It speaks volumes of Sophie that within a couple of days of being selected as the Labour candidate for Cardiff North, she is already sharing her vision with people in an energetic and authoritative way. The constituency will be in safe hands with Sophie."
Julie Morgan MP said: "I have worked closely with Sophie on many important community campaigns and I know that she will work hard for local people. She is absolutely committed to winning a fair deal for families."
Sophie was elected as a councillor representing the Whitchurch and Tongwynlais ward of Cardiff in 1999, the youngest councillor in Wales at the age of 21. She works as the legal services manager for the Equal Opportunities Commission, where she advises individuals on sex discrimination and champions gender equality. She is expecting her third child in March. |
