This year...

We have written letters to leaders of three foreign countries supporting social justice for victims of injustice (as presented by Amnesty International), bought stickers from Amnesty to sell as a fundraiser for postage for such letters.

 We raised over $100 for the Time Out For Kids spelling bee, which we participated in on December 2nd. Money from that went to three children's camps, including Safe Haven.

On December 1st, World AIDS Day, we distributed red ribbons to the school community that we made to show support for AIDS and its victims worldwide. 

On Human Rights Day, December 10th, which celebrates the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we covered the school with flyers and posters promoting awareness of worldwide human rights violations and other problems. 

We also sold over 100 Amnesty International stickers to raise money for postage for our letters that we wrote as part of Amnesty International's letter writing campaigns.

 In February, Dave Butler, the director of the Safe Haven camp for kids with HIV/AIDS came to our school with three AIDS victims -- Ed Burks, Raquel Quinones, and Tim Levine -- to speak about their experiences with AIDS and break down some of the social barriers the disease puts up. 

Finally, in April, we sponsored the eighth annual AAU Community Breakfast. Our featured speaker was Laura M. Barrett, the Chief Operating Officer for the American Anti-Slavery Group, which liberates slaves worldwide today. Thanks to all who attended.

If you see anything interesting over the summer, make sure to remember it and bring it up at meetings this fall! 2004-2005 for AAU is an open book so far... write in it!!

The first meeting of the 2004-2005 school year will be sometime during the second or third week of September. Elections will be held to determine officer positions.
