IGNATIUS BRUCE

MARY POLLY BRUCE

Mary Polly Bruce married Bartlett Zachary in Caswell Co. NC in 1797,

but no parents can be found for her.  

The Zachary family moved to Arkansas, so Mary Polly may have died there.

Came USA from Angus area of Scotland with wife Helen Cooper Bruce of Brechin, Scotland 1882-1887.  They came to the New York/New Jersey area shortly before 1888 when their daughter Mary was born.

Looking for ancestors/information on

BENJAMIN B. BRUCE born abt 1768/1770  place unknown,

Benjamin entered into Louisiana about 1818/1819 (place unknown)

and bought 300 acres of land in Sicily Island, Catahoula Parish, LA.

He died in Catahoula Parish, LA 1822 leaving 6 children and no wife:

John H. Bruce b 1797/1801 d 1834 Catahoula Parish, LA

Benjamin Bruce Jr. b 1805 d 28 Sep 1838 Catahoula Parish, LA

Rebecca Brittain Bruce b 21 Nov 1806 d 23 Aug 1833 Catahoula Parish, LA

Martha V. Bruce b 1813/14 d 1830 Catahoula Parish, LA

Mary Elizabeth Bruce b 1802 d 1833 Catahoula Parish, LA

Robert Hewson Bruce B 1810/1811 d 1838 Catahoula Parish, LA.

Burke/Rutherford,NC

married

SINIA JONSTON or JOHNSON b. 1778

Culpeper Co,VA 10/11/1799

Children of this union were:

i) James Gibson b. 1800 born Halifax,VA m. Elizabeth Leonard

All the other children born Burke/Rutherford Co,NC

near Cedar Creek off main river probably Broad River

ii)  Nancy H. b. 1802

iii)  Samuel J. b. 1804 d. 1837 m. Rhoda ---- d. 1843

Samuel and Rhoda were members of Bill's Creek Baptist Church Rutherford,NC

iv)  Mary M b. 1807 may have married David Stradley

v)  Frances P. b. 1809 d. 1822 or 1832

vi)  Ignatius b. 1811 m. Margaret Patton lived in Buncombe Co, NC

vii)  Bailey b. 1813 m. Martha (Patsy) Gilliam

migrated to Jackson Co, AL then DeKalb Co, AL before death 1886

Notes:

1)  Bailey Bruce and Samuel J. Bruce were Baptist preachers who preached at Mondford Cove, Bill's Creek Baptist Church, and Bethlehem Church Rutherford/McDowell Co, NC in 1830's.

2)  Rev. Bradley Bruce conducted the funeral of Donald Gordon McDowell who died 9 April 1983 at Bill's Creek Baptist Church. I don't know if Bradley Bruce is related to Ignatius Bruce.

3)  In looking at 1850 Rutherford County Census there was a William Bruce b. ca 1796 in the same area with the Ignatius Bruce family that we cannot connect to our family.
