Zeta Alpha Alumni Newsletter-August 2009

Brothers, Little Sisters, and Friends:

In the last newsletter I had mentioned about the possibility of meeting at Slippery Rock for Homecoming on Oct 3rd. Well Jack Shivetts and a few Little sister took the bull by the horns and have setup a great weekend for those who would like to attend. They have reserved a block of rooms at the Pittsburgh Marriot North in Cranberry for Friday and Saturday night. As of the last email from Jack, most of the rooms had been booked, but some were still available. I'll leave the link below if interested.

On the Saturday morning of Homecoming, they have also charted a bus to take attendees from Cranberry to Slippery Rock, and return back on the bus that evening. The bus will leave Cranberry approximately at 10:00AM. At last count, Jack had estimated that 50 people would be attending. Many brothers from the 80's will be attending along with their wife's. Also several little sister from this era will also be in attendance. This event is for everyone in the brotherhood, no matter if your from the 60's or 70's. If you have any questions, please email Jack Shivetts at: [email protected] . Jack has also suggested we wear our letters that day, but how many of us can fit in our old shirts?

Some of you might want to continue this discussion on facebook at the Theta Chi-Zeta Alpha Chapter link. There are 47 members there, along with some great pictures.

On Homecoming Day you might want to visit the Slippery Rock Alumni house. I'm hoping by October 3rd the new bricks we purchased for our recently deceased brothers will be in place. I received a confirmation from Mike Saraka (Alumni Relations) that the bricks are on order and will be placed with the other bricks we've ordered in the past.

Mike Burk emailed me recently and ask if I could mention in the newsletter a web link. Mike said that the only reason he's sending out this request is is because Sharon, the mother identified in this link and is a former co-worker of his in Rhode Island, she has a connection to The Rock. Her cousin was his internship advisor, Dick Manning, at the Slippery Rock Recreation Department. Her uncle, Coach D (Bob DiSpirito) was Mike's first faculty advisor (albeit short since he was not a Jock) and long time head football coach at The Rock. Her daughter, Samantha, is a wonderful young woman who will always live with the struggles of her physical challenges and is seeking donations by the web.
