Strikes have changed the way that the economy, politics and social life have been run since the Industrial Revolution.  The workers always refused work until their "want" was met. ?Some examples of why strikes were called include:
1. Wage disputes
2. Shortening the work day
3. Gaining or defending the control over the work process
4. Improving the working conditions in the factories
5. Protesting the disciplining of unionists
6. The exclusion of non-whites for jobs
7. The exclusion of females for jobs
8. Protesting racial discrimination - RARE -
