Levious Lamping was born February 22, 1818 in Ontario, the twelfth child
of Anthony Lamping and Marie Neddo. He moved to Kemptville, Ontario and for some years managed the Tanney
and Sloan Foundry there. Kemptville is about twenty miles south of Ottawa. The business was founded in
1837 or 1838 by Levious' brother-in-law, Stephen
Tanney. Stephen was the second husband of Levious' older sister, Charlotte Jane Lamping.
In 1844 Levious married Elizabeth Murray. They had two children,
Vincent Patrick, born March 12, 1845 and Sarah Elizabeth, born December 10, 1847. Vincent Patrick
succeeded his father as the manager of the foundry, which
ultimately was renamed the Dominion Foundry. Sarah Elizabeth married James Swain and they are the
parents of Rose Theresa Swain Sheedy.
Levious Lamping died February 28, 1891. He was seventy-three.
