out on the porch.
"I think he took most of the beating." I said almost matter-of-factly.
"Oh, well take him outside and Cassie tell your parents they're invited over tomorrow for a big turkey dinner. There ain't no sense in having a half dead turkey." Mom told us.
We took the turkey out to the shed. My grandpa would have to kill him and clean him because my dad wouldn't be home from work on time, and we didn't want it to suffer. We called him over and he did it.
Well the next night my mom made a big dinner. Cassie and her parents came over like we had planned. This time was different though. Cassie wasn't in her shorts and flannel shirt. She had on a dress. A very nice dress too. She was beautiful to me for the first time. After the dinner I had remembered that there was going to be a dance at our school so I got up my nerve and I asked her to it. I couldn't believe I had done it, and neither could she.
"Yeah" she said.
"Okay" I said blankly, my mind still wondering.
Our parents found out about it and weren't the least bit surprised. They knew we'd eventually get together. I think we did to, but if it hadn't been for the comatose turkeys then I wouldn't have looked in her eyes and felt that way about her. As odd as it sounds we were a match made in a turkey pen.
