down.  She wasn't.
"Way to go Batman." She said spitting mud out with each word.
"Sorry.  I thought he'd gone mad." I sputtered out.
After we had wiped the bigger part of the mud off of ourselves, we went to feed the turkeys.  The turkeys were very easily frightened and, if you ask me, they were dumb.  I was wrong again.  We went into the pen.  I had the feed and threw it.  Normally the turkeys would run and hide or run into each other and fall down.  This time they stood still.
"What's going on?" Cassie asked.
"I'm not real sure Cas." I answered.
They stood there as if they were an army platoon waiting for a general.  I threw more feed.  They stood motionless.
"This is kind of spooky." Cassie whispered
"Yep," I said, "but it sure is funny"
We both kind of giggled under our breaths.  Just then a thought passed through my head.  I guess Cassie had the same thought I did because she said it before I could.
"Touch one of 'em." She whispered again.
Well to my dismay I agreed.  If I hadn't I would've looked like a little wimp or something.  I bent my knees slowly.  Eased in to the crowd of comatose turkeys.  I reached out.  Then it happened.  The turkeys fell out of attention.
"That's better." I said.
Then we noticed that they were circling around us.  It seemed that they were planning our demise.  It felt like Orwell's Animal Farm in that pen.  We were waiting for one of them to talk.  We were completely in shock and also were quite paranoid.
"Gobble." One of the turkeys said
The turkey said gobble, we heard "Kill 'em!"  We jumped.  We both looked at each other.  It was awkward because it was the first time I had felt anything for her other than a slight bit of friendship.  I was concerned for her.  I was concerned for me too though, so I tried to shake it off.  Just then the turkeys made like the chickens and started to run at us and peck our legs.    Then I had a plan.
"Thanksgiving is in a few months.  How long does turkey keep?" I yelled above the gobbling.
"Long enough!" she screamed back.
We started kicking and punching those turkeys like there was no tomorrow.  We just wanted to make it out of there with legs.  I took all the feed and threw it across the pen.  I thought it would get their attention and they'd leave us alone.  I was wrong again.  They kept on pecking at us.  We couldn't hold back anymore. Our little kicks and slaps turned into a Bruce Lee movie.  We fought for all we thought we were worth.  Finally after all the violence the turkeys gave up and went to eat like nothing had happened.
"What was that all about?" Cassie said with an irritated tone in her voice.
"Heck if I know" I replied with all the breath I could muster.
We then got out of there as quick as we could.  We didn't want any trouble.  We grabbed the one injured turkey that couldn't move and left the pen.  After we got out of the pen we laid the turkey on the ground and went in to tell my mom what had happened.
"Well how in the world did that happen?" she asked pointing to the half dead turkey
