Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About  Surfing
Surfing Terminology Surfboard Types
How To Surf!
1. Determine which surfboard to use. Longboards are better for beginners because they are more boyant, which makes it much easier to catch waves with. Shortboards, are not as much designed for beginners, they are less boyant, and harder to control. For a beginner I would recomment a board at least 7'5" long. The surf brand Channel Islands tends to make some of the best surfboards around.

2. Paddle out to where the waves are just beginning to break. While paddling out to the breaking waves, you will have to duck dive (pushing the nose of the board underwater, and diving under the wave) however ithis will take practice.

3.  When you are out in the breakwater, find a wave that is suitable to your liking. About five seconds before the wave hits you, you should lay flat on the board (facing the beach) and begin paddling hard. It will take alot of practice to catch waves, so dont be dissapointed if you dont catch it the first time you try.

4. Once you catch the wave, quickly leap up into standing position on the board. Place one foot near the back and the other just above midpoint on the board.

5. Now just keep your balance, and you will be surfing. (Also practice turning by shoving your front foot in the direction that you want to go and the back foot in the opposite direction at the same time.)
