WHO WE ARE: A group of family members and friends connected through their association with the late Julia Mae Jones Reeves and Reverend Willie (Shobe) Reeves of Eufaula, Alabama. We are comprised of members representing the ancestors of Williams, Marshall, Lewis, Jones, and Reeves lineages who originally resided in the Alabama counties of Barbour, Russell, Dale, Henry, and Lee. We have formed this organization to fellowship together; to express our appreciation for the love that was bestowed on us; to show respect for the Christian life lived out in front of us; and to memorialize the life and times of our humble ancestors.
PURPOSE: To foster brotherly love and to ensure the prosperity of the black family who against many odds and obstacles, choose to exercise their rights and freedoms and continue to play a vital role in US history despite the travesty of injustice played out on them throughout the kidnapping from their native homelands, the treacherous middle passage, the subsequent holocaust of slavery, the disjointed and disappointing reconstruction trial period, and the ensuing fight of the civil rights movement.
OBJECTIVE: To be a resource for educational, charitable and literary projects that will: support and promote ongoing family historical and genealogical research, undergird members to ensure the prosperity of this association, publication of books, newsletters, narratives, and bulletins, and archive family records in a way that will contribute to further understanding and appreciation of the lives of our ancestors.
GOAL: To come together consistently and regularly via various means to learn about each other, unite our families, to grab a firm hold of our rich African-American heritage, and then to stretch out our arms to embrace our community and society.
VISION: Our vision is to incorporate as a nonprofit organization. With incorporation, we may be able to offer tax-deductible donations in the future, open bank accounts under JRFA, provide scholarships to JRFA members, establish a trust, and to publish a book about the history and genealogy of JRFA, etc. Please note that in order for us to accomplish these goals, we need donations. If you are able to make a donation in any amount to help us fulfill our vision, thanks, we really would appreciate it.
