The advice tends to be a bit gendered.
Guy friends tend to say things like:
- Watch for speed traps. Bring antifreeze/coolant and quart of oil.
- Stick to major interstates and known establishments (lodging/dining).
- Worse case for lodging on the road: Walmart caters to RV'ers so they let those folks hang out at the parking lot.
My sister friends tend to say things like:
- When you are hungry, but low on money, Feed yourself with poetry and music and divine wisdom... then eat some crackers. they fill the tummy.
- Buy a copy of FIERCE magazine (in culture/society or women's section of Borders or Barnes & Nobles)
- (perhaps my favorite tidbit) Drive bra-less!
