July 26-July 30 2002: I was in the Detroit area and therefore flew into DTW from Logan on Northwest. The new terminal there looks great. The main A concourse has 78 gates with a tram that spans the concourse length. The B concourse serves Continental and Northwest Jet Airlink, while the adjacent C concourse serves the mesaba saabs. The flights both ways were excellent. On the 30th I got to snoop around the whole place before my flight home on an A320. (bos-dtw was B757-200) I even got some numbers down without hassle. But no photos, didn't want to take any chances with local authorities.
February 15-February 22, 2003:
Our families' annual south Florida trip to visit the grandparents was completed.
We found a low fare out of PVD to West Palm, through Detroit on my new favorite
carrier, Northwest. Aircraft were A319/A320, which I love because they are
wider and more comfortable than Boeings, especially row 5 on the 320. The
midfield terminal at Metro is awesome, over 90 gates and all northwest birds
up close. Be sure to ride the tram for an overview of the apron! And kudos
to Northwest flight crews, they did an excellent job!
September 2003: Josh Jakob goes off to college! As a recent high school graduate, I will be continuing my education at Daniel Webster College of Nashua, NH. It is an aviation oriented school, and I will be studying aviation management and living up there in one of the residence halls. The school uses their own fleet and flight center at the adjacent Boire Field for flight and ground training. I look forward to being able to watch planes almost at my doorstep and more trips to Manchester airport!
