The First Marine Division Band appears nationwide in over 400 performances annually. The band supports the First Marine Division, so the majority of the commitments are done on base, while approximately 10% are done off base. The band regularly travels to the nearby cities of Los Angeles and San Diego for community performances. Camp Pendleton is located in Southern California approximately 90 miles south of Los Angeles and 40 miles north of San Diego. The communities around Camp Pendleton are Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Fallbrook, and San Clemente.

The band stays current with Marine Corps training with annual marksmanship re-qualification, gas chamber exercises, MCCS testing, semi-annual physical fitness tests, and rear area security training. At least once a year, the band dons 782 gear and heads for the field. These exercises last 3-12 days and includes hands on experience with the M16A2 Service Rifle, M203 Grenade Launcher, MK 19 .40mm, M2 .50 caliber Heavy Machine Gun, M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, and the M240G machine gun.
