The Heart of              God was the
  Heart of a                 Little Child
To say that we live in a sinful world would be something of an understatement these days. Because God is just and righteous and truly hates sin, it can be safely assumed that God is very angry; and because God created the world good and because He loves us and wants what is best for us He must also be very sad. The list of transgressions is a long one. We are overrun with those who deny God, who fight against Him, we are surrounded by perversion, pornography, hedonism, spiritual indifferentism and what His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has called the tyranny of relativism which denies that there is an absolute standard of right and wrong. All of these things must make God very angry, angry that after so many blessings He would treated in such a way. He must also be sickened that the good and perfect world He made is corrupted and exploited and that the people He made in His own image choose to debase that image through perversions too vile to even speak of. Yet, if there is one sin above all which I think must make God saddest of all that is abortion.
It is a sign of the times we are living in that it has become a matter of debate whether or not children should be given an undeniable right to life, yet this is the position we find ourselves in. For anyone claiming to be a Christian there should be no doubt or debate about it. God says He knew each of us before we were even born, so I don't see how there could be any question about when life begins. We also see all throughout the Bible that the birth of a child is always cause for celebration and joy. Christ Himself said, "Let the little children come to me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven". In fact, the Bible tells us that we must all become like little children if we are to enter God's kingdom, and in the vision given of that kingdom the prophet said, "a little child shall lead them".
Children are the most precious gift God can give, they are love from love, and what could be more heart-breaking for God than to have His greatest gift rejected because of such selfish excuses as "money" or "convenience"? I know some will raise the question of: "what about cases of rape and incest?" to which I can only reply that today one out of every four children which are conceived are aborted, and one fourth of all women are not being raped by their uncles I can promise you. The second point is that why would you punish a child for the sins of the father and why put the mother through one traumatic event when she has already been forced to endure the horrific trauma of rape? And, then there is always adoption. It baffles me that there are so many people purposely messing with their bodies and doctors trying to grow baby clones in test tubes when we have so many children who want to be adopted and so many childless parents who need them just as much.
Any world where helpless, innocent babies can be slaughtered by the millions is a world with definite spiritual problems (and yet we call people of the past barbaric) and in need of serious divine help and repentance. It also amazes me that there can be so many people who are (rightly so) concerned about the slaughter of animals, the eradiction of the rain forest and the disruption of the ecosystem yet at the same time can be so casual about the loss of human lives (humans are part of the ecosystem too) or who can be so against man's tampering with nature yet see nothing wrong with manipulating life itself at its very foundation or how people can be so (justly) concerned and outraged at the lives lost through war and yet hardly bat an eye at the millions lost to abortion. What has gone wrong with our sense of morality? My opinion is that a crime of this magnitude and cruelty can only be attributed directly to the devil, and unlike some, I do believe that the devil is a very real, living spiritual being that is lurking somewhere right now.
I truly believe that abortion is one of THE most horrific evils our society is facing today. The number of innocent lives taken is simply mind numbing. Attila the Hun, Ghengis Khan, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot -none of them had so many people massacred as the abortionists around the world have in our own time. It cannot be tolerated and all Catholics, all Christian people, anyone with any conscience at all MUST oppose it in any way we are able. That means we don't hold aloof from the political process, but that we vote in whatever country we live in for strong Pro-Life candidates, that means we support the Pro-Life Movement in any way we can, it means that we pray hard and pray often that this global tragedy will come to an end. There is precedent for such a thing, and in this spiritual fight for life it is Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, who is our
Generalissima. We can look back for inspiration to the battle of Lepanto. Prior to the battle, in which Europe was threatened by Muslim invasion, Pope St Pius V called on all the faithful to pray the rosary. The people did, Our Lady was faithful and the battle was won.
It was because of this battle that the Feast of Our Lady of Victory was established, later known as Our Lady of the Rosary and it is shining proof of the power of prayer and the intercession of our Holy Mother. If we can mobilize enough "prayer warriors" to combat abortion, if we can confront the general public with the horrifying truth and ugliness of this crime, by the grace of God we can overcome it and live in a world that respects life and rejoices in the birth of every child rather than robbing them of that life. We must also uncover the deception of those who would, as Pope John Paul the Great said, cloak such evil as murdering the innocent in the uplifting terms of "freedom" and "human rights". The simple fact is this: either a human fetus is a life or it is not. If it is not, life becomes a truly subjective term; but if it is, there can be no justification for taking that away, and what person with any shred of morality can really feel comfortable taking that risk with something as sacred as human life>
