Llegando a bordo de la Enterprise en un transbordador robado de una base estelar, Lokai, un alienígena medio blanco y medio negro, pide protección. Poco después, Bele, su perseguidor, llega a bordo y pronto se inicia entre los dos una cruenta e inexplicable lucha basada en los prejuicios raciales.
