Later on I participated in the High Definition TV project at the Concept Design Group of the Video Technology Division of ITRI. We conducted user research work and mapped out the design strategy for the future interactive TV and once collaborated on a design workshop with IDEO. I performed the function of industrial design in the developing team to develop new concepts and designs for next-generation consumer electronic products, e.g. Interactive TV, Electronic Still Camera, Personal Digital Assistant, etc. From these projects, I learned the user-centered design methodology, including interviewing users, composing scenarios, and the cognitive psychology.
During my graduate study at Pratt, I implemented this methodology in designing the Transmedia Desktop Worktool System, which is granted Bronze Prize in 1995 I.D.E.A. Award of IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America). After graduating from Pratt, I have worked in the design consulting firms from Ledan Inc. to Cadview Technologies, serving clients in consumer electronics, structural packaging, and promotional designs. I create innovative product forms and mechanical solutions by using the CAD program such as Solidworks, and then specify production details of plastic packaging products mainly for cosmetic industry via injection-molding process. I also designed a series of video converters from start to finish for Vxis Technologies Co., a high tech company specializing in digital video technologies.
