In our class, we will go through 5 units in our Open Court Reading Book. Click on each link to see the main activities and vocabulary words for each unit.
The best way to increase reading fluency is to READ, READ, READ! By the end of 5th grade, students should be reading at least 155 words correctly per minute of grade level text. 25th percentile - 105 words correct per minute 50th percentile - 130 words correct per minute 75th percentile - 155 words correct per minute All students should read AT LEAST 20 MINUTES DAILY

As you read, be sure to use the READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES of excellent readers! (Think of how we use the picture/poster, on the left, in our classroom). Remember, there are plenty of books to read in our classroom and be sure to pick one that is appropriate for your reading level. Use the 5 finger test on the first page - if you count more than 5 words that you don't know how to pronounce or you can't figure out the definition, the book may be too difficult for you.
