THE AMOUNT YOU LEARN DEPENDS ON THE PRACTICE YOU DO ON YOUR OWN
IT IS NOT ENOUGH JUST TO COME TO THE LESSONS
You Should Bring To Every Lesson
. A4 ring binder to put your music in
. Pupil Record book (from me) and a pencil
. Electric Guitar, with 6 steel strings - .009s or .010s, plain 3rd string
. OR
. Acoustic guitar with 6 steel strings - .010s or .011s, plain 3rd string
. Guitar Invasion CD (from me) Sneak a preview
. Plectrum - thickish for preference (cut up phone cards are free)
. Elastic Capo - check in the shop that it fits your guitar neck
. Set of strings - sometimes they break
. Guitar lead
. Total Guitar magazine - get the current issue when you start lessons
Useful Optional Extras
. Distortion pedal (if not in your amp) - essential for rock - try Boss, Danelectro, Zoom, Ibanez etc or make your own)
. Cassette recorder+mic - make your own recordings/backings - v. useful learning tool
. Drum box or electronic metronome - for building technique. Often built in to home keyboards
. Using an amplifier? - get a Power Breaker - if anything goes wrong, it cuts off the power before you get a shock
. Playing in a band? - wear earplugs, or you'll damage your hearing
. Electronic tuner - it takes practice to tune up without one. Multieffects have one built in / tuition CDs give tuning notes
You Will Be Expected To:
. Practice for a minimum of 20-30 mins per day, every day, and record it in your record book
. Keep music sheets in your ring binder and bring them to every lesson
. Make sure you understand the timetable - lessons times vary each week
. Arrange absences from other classes, return promptly to them, and make up any work missed
. If you miss any lessons, find out that week's practice and do it
. If you want to get good, get Total Guitar every month - includes a CD and lessons on all your favourite guitar tracks - with backings, interviews, technique etc. All the music I am asked for is printed in Total Guitar - often the next issue
