Mar 17 8:46 Bruce King: On Sunday (March 15) there was still enough snow to ski in the County Forest area. However, bare ground was starting to appear in a few locations (including the entrance trail at Entrance W). If you want one last ski, you should get out very soon.
Mar 7 overnight Pat: Skied from the East entrance and made it to marker 51. No snow past marker 51. I had checked out the West entrance and there was not enough snow to ski in. It's raining now so who knows whether it will last the night. All in all it was soft but skiable - better than not getting out at all. Feb 23 13:10 Shawn: On Feb 21 Skied Kolapore Church, Trail to the Summit, Mount Dhaulagiri, Kingsway, Paradise Highway, no ice but thin cover on the steeps in the Marc's folly/Trail to the Summit area. Had a great day! Feb 22 21:37 Kolapore Trail Guides: Most trails are in generally good condition, although there are some areas with thin snow and/or minor detours to avoid wet spots. Northwest Passage is in poor condition because of substantial areas with limited snow cover, and downed branches. We were able to cut out some of the problem trees on Saturday, but there are others that will have to wait until spring. The west end of Kolapore Church trail from 22 to 23 also has some areas that have shallow snow cover and rocks. We inspected the bridge across Kolapore Creek between 54 and 16, and there do not appear to be any new problems. It should continue to be usable, except there may be water flowing over the bridge if there is a thaw or significant rain fall. We plan to rebuild this bridge in the summer. Feb 16 21:57 Bruce King: There is still a moderate amount of snow cover on much of the trails. The snow gauge is at 35 cm. However, there are some areas where the snow is very thin to non-existent as a result of the thaw and rain last week. Kolapore received about 10 cm of snow last Thursday (Feb. 12). The trails were heavily used over the weekend, so many of the trails are packed down and/or icy. Feb 15 20:02 Honza Kozel: I was on the trail yesterday, and found that the bridge over Kolapore Creek near the base of Red Death (54) was damaged by high water levels in the creek. One section, about 3 m long, has water flowing over it to a depth of about 1 cm, and is unstable. The depth of the water there is very shallow. Another section of the bridge seems to have shifted, but feels solid. The rest of the bridge seems undamaged. I have some photos, if this would help. Leave a message here and I can send them. Feb 7 23:36 Bill Mungall: On the Northwest Passage, there is a tree across the downhill run to the bridge over Metcalfe Creek, about 20 metres from south end of bridge. Had to take a fall to avoid a crash. Otherwise, snow conditions and clearing activities have created ideal conditions everywhere we went, all day. Nice job, trail volunteers. Feb 2 8:47 Bruce King: Although it warmed up somewhat yesterday, the high was only about +1, so there wasn't too much deterioration in snow conditions. A dusting of new snow would be nice to freshen the trails. Virtually all the trails have been recleared after the storm damage discussed in previous postings, with the exception of Northwest Passage and the northern Southern Crossing option between 62 and 63. There are still a number of minor detours, but these don't really affect skiing. If you have tried to ski Quiet Pastures in recent weeks you will see an enormous improvement as a result of the clearing that was completed on the weekend. (We have left two cedars across Quiet Pastures trail just south of 58 to deter snowmobiles.) We looked at the section of County Forest between 4 and 51 yesterday, and there is still one wet area, so it will remain closed. Jan 31 18:14 Jeff Kramer: Spectacular conditions in Kolapore today. We skied from the Church entrance, through the northwest passage, up Mt. Dahlaghiri, up the Kingsway and then Paradise Highway back to the parking lot - almost five hours. It was perfect skiing the whole way. Someone had set tracks for us through the Nortwest Passage and the rest of the way was well set. No problems anywhere. There's tons of snow everywhere. I hear that it's warming up tomorrow. What a shame. The current conditions are what you dream about all summer. Jan 26 8:32 Bruce King: The usual small group of Kolapore volunteers (without any additional assistance) have made some progress since the last posting. Southern Crossing has been recleared west to the intersection with Quiet Pastures. Some work has been done on Quiet Pastures and Northwest Passage, but we still do not recommend using either of these trails, unless you want some rough skiing. Snow conditions are very good.
