CLS and CLSG trip to Geneva - 8/2/09 - 11/2/09
HOT NEWS.
1. 1904 7th February. WE MEET AT GATWICK NORTH AT 0615 am. THE LAST TRAIN TO LEAVE VICTORIA GETTING YOU TO GATWICK ON TIME IS THE 0530. This gets in (to Gatwick South) at 0605. You then have 10 minutes to 'glide' to the North Terminal. That should be no problem. Sleep on the plane. REMEMBER TO PUT MY UK AND SWISS PHONE NUMBERS IN YOUR PHONE NOW. Please would you remember that timing on this trip is crucial, so that when I say 'we meet at 0842 hours', that is precisely what I mean - not 0843! This is important.
2. 0820 7th February. CLSBs - EHICs to KK? You haven't been very good about this one, have you? Bring them to Gatwick. CLSGs - EHICs? I've no idea but I guess either you have already handed them in, or will do so to AS at Gatwick.
3. 1124 7th February. The weather in Geneva is the same as here. It is wet rather than snowy. It is not easy to find out news about transport up the hills this weekend, and even when people in Geneva try to convince me that all is well, I have sometimes found on arrival that it is not. They HAVE said all is well this time, but just be prepared and read on. On arrival in Geneva, we shall try to leave most of our luggage in 'left luggage', and venture out of town (with a change of bus in the middle of town). If we find that the only way to the top of the hill is to walk it, then let's try. All it will mean is that our shoes will get muddy - so do not wear trainers, and have a change ready when we get back to the airport. If we have to walk it, BE PREPARED - AND HAVE WITH YOU A PACKED LUNCH because we probably will not make it to the top where there must be a cafe. Not a bad idea to bring a snack/packed lunch with you anyway on Sunday.
TO SUMMARISE - WE'LL LEAVE MOST OF OUR LUGGAGE AT THE AIRPORT AND TAKE WITH US OUR PASSPORTS (you must ALWAYS carry these around with you wherever you are), PACKED LUNCH, WEARING DECENT SHOES, WARM CLOTHING AND BRINGING WATERPROOF 'THINGS'. If you know all this now, then sensible people (that is 24 out of the party of 25) will pack accordingly and so we will not have massive amounts of repacking to do at the airport. We'll have to make allowances for Tim.
If we find that the hill walk is too muddy, we shall sing a song and count the sheep and/or the raindrops, retreat, and finally cry into a MacDonald's coffee. Some of us may have a bit more taste and go elsewhere but...
If shoes are muddy, you'll need to sort this when you get back to your airport luggage.
It is possible or dare I say even probable (because Mr Telepherique at the bottom of the hill did answer his phone this morning, which shows that the machinery is operating,) that we can be lifted to the the top of the hill, and if this is the case, HAVE A FEW EUROS ON YOU. WE WILL BE IN FRANCE and passports will have to be shown.
N.B. BRING THE CORRECT PASSPORT TO GATWICK!
We need a photocopy of the all important name page together with the �265 cheque.
