The War of the Gods

With their masters gone, the Gods felt liberated. They developed their powers beyond anything Kalis had envisioned. Midgard was at their beck and call. They controlled everything, and made sure the mortals knew about it.
However, three Gods were unhappy with the world. They found it too pleasant, to green. They were Maki, the Lord of Chaos; Seraf, the Storm Rider and Arantol, the Ice King. Although each God was sworn to never harm Midgard, ruling it was a different matter altogether. So they declared themselves to rule Midgard, something that appalled the other Gods.

When the Gods war, the mortals suffer. Entire settlements were wiped out as Gods battled in titanic form, blows shaking the ground like earthquakes and storms raging the skies. All anyone could do was run, trying to hide from the warring Gods.

One year Laex, the God of Light, discovered the uses of followers. He spoke to Norns, and they began to spread his word. Other Gods began to follow suit, until Maki went one stage further. Using his powers, he mutated his followers into malicious bloodthirsty abominations. Thus were spawned the Chaos Hordes. Maki's prime follower was Darain, a young Norn outcast. He was given power beyond his wildest dreams, and became the ruler of the Hordes. Lesser Chaos Lords followed, and the dreadful tide of Chaos began to sweep through the Nornir lands.

The Jotun and the Nornir warriors did their best to stop the tide of Chaos, but the unstoppable evil was already corrupting the land. Chaos Spawn climbed battlements over the corpses of their fellows, thirsting for carnage and pain. When the Hordes arrived at the city of Mimir, the last free ciy in the North, there was only one defender there to stop them. Her name was Aleosh, the first Prophet.

The last creation of Kalis and Mar'us was the latent Prophet ability in the Malay genome. Every few generations the right genes would combine to allow a female to gain psychic powers. Unlike Kalis' psychic powers, which were only strong enough to move small objects, a Prophet's psychic ability verged on the titanic. The Hordes were smashed and broken by the mental powers of a single young Norn.

After the Hordes retreated to Chaos Lands, Aleosh summoned the Gods at her demand. She ordered them to make peace and to cease fighting lest she destroy them herself. Terrified by the power held by this girl, the Gods conceded to her orders. For the rest of her long life she terrorised the Gods, forcing them to do as she willed until Midgard gained a fragile peace.
