The Building of Midgard
When the Shee left Midgard, the world
descended into disorder. The Norns became lost and alone, without
their masters to help them. Hundreds died, and the Grendels began
to prey on them with crude weapons and claws. The Ettins kept
away, hiding in the mountains of the world.
But the Shee had left behind many Jotun bodyguards, who blundered
upon the Norn colonies. Without any Shee to protect, the adopted
the Norns. Many a Grendel felt the wrath of an angry Jotun
protecting their Norn charges. Without the massive might of the
Jotun, the Norns never would have survived for more than a few
years.
The Norns and Jotun struggled along for
decades, until a young Norn by the name of Hexe found a Shee
Staff. By talking to it, he learny of it's powerful secrets and
became extremely adept at magic. His discovery allowed the Norns
to advance much faster, and he soon taught others his craft.
These few became the Hexenmeisters, and still exist on Midgard
today. They attached themselves to a tribe of Norns and helped
them to grow.
Much strife followed in the years to come. The Norns became a
much hardier breed than before, having to cope with such
unforgiving harsh conditions. They began to hunt, chasing the
deer and boar in the forests and stalking the fish in the rivers.
The necessity of having to hunt for food was something no Norn
had ever encountered, and they became smarter. They made traps
and better weapons to get food for their tribes. The Norns were
adapting to life without the Shee there, as were all the races.
The Grendels learnt from the Norn weapons and developed better
ones for themselves.
The sub-species were a different matter. Some of them, such as vampires and gremlins, were shunned from the Nornir tribes. Others were welcomed, like sprites, elves and faeries. Surprisingly, one of the most welcome races was the Gargoyle, later to be shunned. They were the best hunters, swooping down upon their prey with vicious claws. They were an integral part of Nornir society.
After hunting, farming developed. Crops were planted and grown to feed the tribe when hunting was thin. Large crops of barley, wheat and pears were grown, and mead was discovered soon after. Domestication of Pitzen and hounds started, with the huge dogs helping with hunting. Nornir and Jotun society began to thrive. The planet was developing.
But a great disaster was looming on the horizon. With the Shee gone, the Gods began to realise their powers.
