WEBSITE GUIDE
These days, any website worth it's salt will let you send free SMS messages to mobile phones. It's much faster than keying in text on your phone's keypad, since the keys aren't the size of your little fingernail. Iobox.com have kindly agreed to let you send free text messages to your friends from their site., but they've also gone a step further, with a cheeky little number they like to call m-mail. This will let you read and send e-mails via your mobile. And it'll allow you to access to your e-mail account even if you don't have one of those fancy WAP-type phones. IOBOX also runs its own postcard service. These are pictures that will show up on your friend's mobile screen with a message attached. To send a postcard, you'll just need to come up with your own little text message, choose the card you want, and enter your friend's mobile number. This is an international website, so you'll need to remember to enter the international code and take the first 0 off your friend's number. IOBOX is also a pretty good bet for all the usual
goodies, to help you personalize your mobile, like downloading icons and
ringtones. It even has it's own Top 5 Chart of the most popular ringtones doing
the rounds. And it'll send all the latest news, sports and entertainment info to
your mobile. picturemessaging.com is a site dedicated to helping
you personalize your phone. It has loads of pictures to choose from, whether you
want to save them as operator logos, group graphics, picture message or screen
savers. To buy a logo, just pick your favorite picture, and click on the buy
button beside it - you'll need to persuade someone to get their credit card out
for this if you don't have one. The site also has a Help Zone, in case there's
something you're not quite sure about, and a Test Zone, which will send a free
test logo to your mobile, to make sure your phone is compatible before you hand
over the payment. You can buy new tunes from the site if you don't
fancy trying to key a ringtone yourself, again using the Test Zone first to make
sure your handset is compatible. Ringtones.com also has a pretty cool selection
of recent chart hits, to replace the sad choices in your phone's memory. mobiletones.com offers similar services - it sends
logos and ringtones to your mobile for a small charge. If you're a football fan,
it also has a selection of club crests to download as logos, as well as a few
club song ringtones. ringtones-direct.com will send ringtones and logos to
your mobile phone - but only if you have a Nokia phone. If you don't have a
credit card, you can click on the option to pay the ringtone for the cost of the
phonecall. At winbox.com, members can download ringtones, pictures and icons, and receive daily horoscopes, jokes, and news & celebrity updates. The website works on a system of SmartEuros, or credits - you are given 200 credits when you join, and if you introduce a friend to the site, you get another 400. If you run out, you can buy more online. These credits pay for any SMS messages (5 credits for each message) and any ringtones, logos, or other stuff that takes your fancy.
Free Services yourmobile is a free service, which offers ringtones that you can input into your phone yourself. It will also send tunes via SMS if you just can't bothered yourself to key-in your favorite tune. Not to be outdone by iobox, it too boasts it's own ringtone chart - a Top 20 of the most popular tunes, no less. You'll need to fill in the membership to access the
tunes, which can be a bit of a hassle. Yourmobile claims to be the best popular
free rintones site in the world, which is probably why it can be tricky to go
into. But if you don't mind spending a bit of time trying to access the site,
there are plenty of tunes to choose from, including load of chart hits. Another good website to find free tones. The graphics
aren't exactly spectacular, but it contains loads of cool tunes for Nokia,
Ericsson and Siemens phones (but unfortunately not for Motorola handsets). It
also has really clear instructions for inputting your chosen tune to your phone
just in case you still don't know how to key-in the tunes. myalert.com will send free news, horoscopes, film
releases, lottery results and sports updates to your mobile phone. It has a
diary section to remind you of someone's birthday, or when you're supposed to be
meeting a friend. The website also offers help to those with such hectic lives
they don't even have time for a bit of retail therapy. If you need to buy
someone a birthday present, but can't get out of the shops to find one, Myalert
will send you alerts to help you choose the right present and tell you where to
but it. Log on to quios.com (pronounced Kee Ahs) website and
you can pre-program a special mobile greeting to be sent to someone on their
special occasion, e.g. birthdays, anniversaries. You could also send a friend a
reminder you're supposed to be meeting them for a night out, or wish someone
good luck in an exam. The website will send news, weather, sports, and
entertainment alerts direct to your mobile, and allows you to access your
e-mails from your phone. It also offers a service called PlanetQuios, which
gives you a chance to swop football, dating, and film reports with other Quios
users and catch up on all gossip on what the celebrities are getting up to. halebop.com based in Sweded, is an international
website offering free services to all its members. You have to be a member to
use this site, but this is pretty simple to do - just fill in your details and
you'll be sent an SMS message to your phone with a password that you'll gonna
use to enter the website. Once you enter this password, you can download
ringtones (with a limit of 1 ringtone a day), send SMS messages to your friends,
and receive travel, news and horoscope info - all for free. What if the boy or girl of your dream is in the other
side of the room, but you can't quite pluck up the courage to make your big
move? Cosmiccupid.com will send free text messages to anyone you want to flirt
with, but you aren't quite brave enough to actually talk to yet. Be warned
though, once you've registered with this site, you may find flirting become more
of a serious mission than a bit of harmless fun. If you join the flirting game,
you'll be set targets for the number of people you should flirt with, and you
can check your mission status to see how many (if any) of them you've scored
with. A new website, xtremetxt.com, which is run by Motorola lets you create an insult using it's special "Insult Generator". There's even a "random insult" button, to help you come up cool attacks like "does yr mother still dress u, u sad, scum-sucking muppet?" Then all you need to do is put your friend's mobile number in the box, press send, and your prize insult will be swinging its way to your friend's phone before you can say "I lv txting". If your lucky, you might be able to win some mobile phone-type stuff in one of the regular competitions, or blag yourself some freebies from the "free stuff" section. There are also some seriously bizarre things on the xtremetxt website - like an excuse generator for all would be football managers and a "get a better name" page that turns your everyday name into something out of Star Wars or the world of golf.
