| Colorado State (19), (20) at UCLA (31). (30) Final Score: UCLA, 28-19 UCLA RB Manuel White ran for two touchdowns and the UCLA defense held firm when it had to late. After pulling to within two on a Bradlee Van Pelt touchdown run, CSU was going for the tie when a desperation Van Pelt pitch was taken the other way for two points. White iced the game with a 17-yard TD run. Colorado State RB Cecil Sapp carried the ball 25 times for 108 yards. Notre Dame (23), (24) at Purdue (37), (38) Final Score: Notre Dame, 24-17 Notre Dame got two touchdowns off of fumble returns in the second quarter and got a late 33-yard interception return for a score from Vontez Duff to break a 24-24 tie. Yup. Notre Dame scored 24 points without the offense punching it in once. Purdue's offense didn't do much better as the Boilermakers got a punt return for a touchdown by Anthony Chambers, but they did get a 3-yard touchdown run from Jerod Void. Oklahoma (2), (3) at Alabama (30), (U) Final Score: Oklahoma, 37-27 Oklahoma survived a huge scare as Kejuan Jones scored on an 8-yard TD run to take a late 30-27 lead, then Eric Bassey picked up a fumble that slipped out of the hand of Alabama QB Tyler Watts and took it 46 yards for a game sealing score. Up 23-3 at halftime, the Sooners let the game almost slip away as Bama got a four-yard TD run from Ahmaad Galloway, a blocked punt for a TD and a three-yard TD run from Lane Bearden before OU's drive and the run by Jones. Miami (1), (1) at Florida (6). (6) Final Score: Miami, 41-16 Miami RB Willis McGahee ran for 205 yards and Ken Dorsey threw for four touchdowns as the Hurricanes thoroughly dominated the Gators. Down 27-16 in the third quarter, Florida was driving for a touchdown when Maurice Sikes picked off a Rex Grossman throw and took it 99 yards for a touchdown that took all the wind out of the Gator sails. Hawaii (U), (41) at BYU (33), (26) (Phil's Pick) Final Score: BYU, 35-32 BYU RB Marcus Whalen ran for two touchdowns and Bret Engemann threw for 226 yards as the Cougars overcame a lousy first half and a driving thunderstorm which stopped play for a few minutes. Down 14-0, the Cougars came back helped by three third quarter interceptions and the running of Whalen who kept the Hawaii defense on its heels. UH QB Timmy Chang was 20 of 52 for 275 for but tossed four picks. BYU QB Lance Pendelton came in after Engemann took a big shot and ran for two scores. Georgia Tech (32), (28) at U-Conn (Joe's Pick) Final Score: 31-14 Georgia Tech RB Tony Hollings ran for four first half touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 31-0 lead after the third quarter. UConn score on two late touchdown passes, one from Keron Henry and one from Dan Orlovsky, to make the final score closer than the actual game was. North Carolina at Syracuse (G's Pick) Final Score: North Carolina, 30-22 UNC QB Darian Durant threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes while the defense held the Orangemen to 239 yards of total offense to come away with the win. Willie Parker ran for a 50-yard score and Dan Orner hit field goals from 52, 51 and 55 yards. Syracuse goy TD runs from Walter Reyes, Johnnie Morant and R.J. Anderson. Akron at Maryland (G's Pick) Final Score: Maryland, 44-14 Maryland PK Nick Novak kicked three field goals in the second half for all the Terp points. Jason Crawford returned a punt for a TD and Madeiu Williams picked off two passes to help keep the Zips from moving the ball. The Terps got balance on offense with five different players scoring touchdowns. Akron QB Charlie Frye was 14 of 25 passing for 204 yards for a touchdown and three interceptions. Fresno State (U), (46) at Oregon (13). (13) (Phil's Pick) Final Score: Oregon, 28-24 Onterrio Smith ran for two, two-yard fourth quarter touchdowns including one with 1:07 to go to avoid the upset. In his second game as a starter, Oregon QB Jason Fife threw for 303 yards and a touchdown while his counterpart, Fresno State QB Paul Pinegar, was 16 of 36 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. Texas A&M (20), (27) at Pittsburgh (U), (42) (Joe's Pick) Final: Texas A&M, 14-12 Derek Farmer ran for two touchdowns for A&M as the Aggies survived two fourth quarter touchdowns and two failed conversions (one missed extra point and one missed two point conversion) from Pittsburgh to escape with a win. Pittsburgh QB Rod Rutherford was 20 of 32 passing for 174 yards and a touchdown with an interception. |
