Preaseason Commentary
Quickies:

ACC
You may as well just shoot craps than pick the winner of the ACC this year. Florida State is primed to reclaim its dominant status but has lost to N.C. State the past two years. N.C. State is building a program that can play with anyone in the nation and will become very apparent when it beats Ohio State early on but they have lost to Maryland the last two years. The ACC champs from '01 are getting their first returning quarterback in the Friedgen era that has produced 21 wins in two years and was demolished by Virginia last year. Al Groh continues to bring the talent to Virginia and will finally have all that talent he has been accumulating on the field.

Projected Final Standings:
1. N.C. State
2. Maryland
3. Virginia
4. Florida State
5. Wake Forest
6. North Carolina
7. Georgia Tech
8. Clemson
9. Duke

Big East
Game of the year? Miami vs. Virginia Tech in Blacksburg is right there with the Red River Shoot out. One of these teams is going to be a serious Sugar Bowl contender and that one team will be whoever emerges here. Pittsburgh looks to play the spoiler but they just dont have the talent to line up against these guys.yet. Once the two heavy weights leave for the ACC ( holy crap what a scary conference next year) Pitt will dominate.

Projected Final Standings
1. Virginia Tech
2. Miami
3. Pittsburgh
4. Syracuse
5. West Virginia
6. Boston College
7. Temple
8. Rutgers
(Ed: What are Temple and Rutgers still doing in Division 1 anyhow?)

Big 12
Talk about top heavy. Three teams in the top 5, ridiculous. The Red River shootout will be the game to decide the South and Kansas State should take the North. Oklahoma just has Texas number, not to mention the nations best defense for what seems like the past 5 years. Watch out for Nebraska in the North, the Lincoln faithful will not stand for another display like last year and a team just 18 months removed from playing for the national title still has elite talent in the program.

Projected Standings
North
1. Kansas State
2. Nebraska
3. Colorado
4. Missouri
5. Iowa State
6. Kansas

South
1. Oklahoma
2. Texas
3. Oklahoma State
4. Texas A&M
5. Texas Tech
6. Baylor

PAC 10

This would be really easy if not for Rick Neuheisel playing in some high stakes NCAA tournament pools. Washington still has the two best players in the conference in Reggie Williams and Cody Pickett but that distraction is just too much. Arizona State will look to light up the skies but my money is on USC repeating for no real good reason, just a hunch. Oregon will also be reloading not to mention Steven Jackson led Oregon State. Theres still Washington State lurking around too but coaching changes are never good for those first year teams. Looking back on this Its easy to see why there hasnt been a national champ from the Pac-10 since Washington did it over 10 years ago, too many good teams to get through unscathed.

Projected Final Standings
1. USC
2. Arizona State
3. Oregon
4. Oregon State
5. Washington
6. Washington State
7. UCLA
8. Cal
9. Stanford
10. Arizona
