Preaseason Commentary
back to FAFG
Well, it's finally here.  After becoming addicted to a certain degree last year, I am ready for this season to start.  Before I start anything, I just want to say that I consider myself the underdog in this game.  G and Phil know a ridiculous amount of college football.

This year, I pick Oklahoma to beat Florida State in the National Championship.  My fall-back picks are Texas and either Tennessee or Florida.

I say this year, the Heisman goes to Rex Grossman.  I would pick Ken Dorsey, but the expectations are too high.  Miami #1?  You gotta be kidding me.  I bet they win one, maybe two of the big three.
People invited: Onterrio Smith, Chris Rix (watch and see), Ken Dorsey, Byron Leftwich (should win, will get snubbed)..
Will stay on the Heisman radar all year, but not quite make it: E.J. Henderson (if you're a LB, you won't make it), Eli Manning, Chris Simms (in my opionion, most likely to break onto the next tier), Cedric Benson
Honorable mentions: Casey Clausen, Anthony Davis, Lee Suggs, Charles Rogers, Andre Davis, Phillip Rivers, Jason Gesser, Cadillac Williams, Bruce Perry (at least in our minds).

People who won't be ranked as high at the end: Miami, Nebraska, Colorado, Maryland, Penn State
Miami lost more talent to the draft last year than some teams compile in a decade.  Nebraska will go down, by default.
One of the top 4 big XII teams will have to accumulate some losses, and I bet it's Nebraska.  Colorado might go down too, but not as much.
Maryland, I hate to say, isn't a top 25 team.  I'm saying this, even assuming Bruce is healthy, and our QB is legit.  I think we were a Patriots.  Chemistry (and great coaching) took us farther than a team loaded with talent.  By the way, have you seen that commercial with that guy holding the suitcase talking to Bill Parcells, asking him how it feels to leave New England and have them win the Super Bowl?  Bill slowly makes his suitcase fall open, dumping the clothes, takes the case, and flings it.  It's great.
Penn State is coming off a couple of down years, and I'm not convinced that they're back.  I think they got their ranking because the writers felt some kind of football deity looking down on them for leaving Joe Pa off for no reason.

People who will exceed expectations: Oklahoma, Florida State, Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan State
Expectations are high for these top two, but with Miami ranked #1, they're obviously not high enough.  Oklahoma will break offenses' will to play, and Florida State will shit all over the other offense and defense, the scoreboard, your coach's mom, inside your gatorade cooler, and if you have a child, down his or her throat.
The other three are all better than they are getting credit for.  Especially Oregon.  Harrington was good, but it wasn't all his doing.  Wisconsin didn't lose anyone huge, and Michigan State is looking to surge towards the BCS, but will fall just short.

Duke gets their own section for futility.  They're horrible, yet over-rated.  Some people have them winning a game this year.  There ya go, over-rated.

My final prediction is that we have some sort of controversy over the BCS system this year.  Call it a hunch.
