Preaseason Commentary
back to FAFG
ACC: Acc will be back. WIth the regular teams whoopin up on the other lower ranks. The only change this year is that UNC and UMD wont' be in the gettin whooped on category.  They'll be in the top doin all da whoopin.  UNC lost their entire defensive front but still they were replaced with promising young guys who have been wanting to get their facemasks on a tailback for some time now.  UMD has a young and promising Linebacking corps led by Leon Joe and the AA EJ Henderson who's back problems are problems no more.  Chris Rix is going to hit all of his speedy receivers in the numbers while he has 3 or 4 backs behind him fight for the chance to gain over 1000 yards in a pass first, scramble second offense.

SEC:  Florida and Auburn in the championship, but definately do NOT count out Georgia as they shocked some people the past two years and will continue to do so.  Tennessee and Casey "Iceman" Clausen are ready to make an SEC championship run as well and if theymake it to the finals, they definately will do just that!

Big 12: This is going to be one of the most interesting conferences as every team is an unbalanced team.  Texas Tech has a good passing game, as does Texas.  Nebraska will have the best running game in the conference ....after Colorad tt is, but will not be the team to beat because they do not play Oklahoma, who's defense will possibly be the best in the nation.  They will be the Miami of 2002.  Anyone who does not have Tommie Harris as a future Heisman Candidate is sick.  He may not win it this year because the QB position will be stacked!  But in the future, he will definately be a threat!  Seneca Wallace will lead ISU to the top passing game in the Big XII.  Too bad only 6 of these teams will finish in the top 25, the whole conference deserve some love.  Oh yah, and don't forget about Texas A&M's top recruiting class and their highly explosive defense. Man, what a stacked conference

Heisman watch.  This year it will definately go to a QB again.  Unfortunately it may ot go to the best QB in the nation, but it will go to the one who produces the best stats.  This could probably be Chris Rix or Ken Dorsey. Byron Leftwich deserves to get it and if he doesn't the world should protest.  Also watch out for Kevin Jones from VT, if he stays healthy, he may make a slight charge, He won't win definately, but he cold get close.  Seneca Wallace and Philip Rivers will get some votes, but Casey Clausen will beat them both out.  What about EJ or Rex Grossman?  Well EJ plays LB, when's the last time a LB got close to winning the heisman, the Butkus award winner, yes, but not the heisman. Rex will have to prove himself again this year.  Keep out of trouble, and show me yer new receivers.  No more Jabar for you son.  Eli Manning will win it next year, don't worry.  and then Anthony Davis will get second and win it  it in 2004, but this year, those two will have to play back seat to the others.

Players to watch: (non-heisman candidates that you may wanna not forget)

Bruce Perry, actually he'll be one of the players watching.  He's out for a while, how long, I can not disclose as of yet ;)  but he is shelfed for a bit.

Terrence Holt, NCSU, He will definately be in the NFL next year and he will definately get his share of INT's this year,  watch out for him if you're an ACC fan relying on a passing game (FSU!)

Anthony Davis, Wisconsin, he's a Badger RB.  Do I have to really say anything else about him?  ONe of the best O-Lines in the contry every year.  and one of the best RB cores in the country every year.  This year will be no different.

Avon Cobourne, WVU, Does Amos Zeroue(sp?) ring a bell?  yah, the "best" RB for the Steelers has a clone, his name is Avon and he's been ripping up the turf in Morgantown as a starter for 2 or 3 years now,  this year will be no different...only his team may not get the wins to show for it like before.

Eli Manning and Dave Ragone, Ole Miss & Louisville, These two have similar styles and love to throw the ball.  They both will be good NFL players.  Eli is only a junior and may be the best QB in the country by the end of the year, if not, then he'll definately win the heisman next year!
