| Phil's Hockey Draft Views and Reviews. Yowza! |
| Round 13 G - Radek Bonk, C-LW, Ottawa: I know G loves his name. He's a good player, too. Production in the 13th round, ain't nothin' wrong with that. Joe - Mike Dunham, G, Nashville: I was waiting for Dunham to get picked by Joe. Yep, it happened. Riley - Martin Biron, G, Buffalo: Guess it's not a bad pick, even if the Sabres are gonna suck ass, they should play decent D as always. Rob - Petr Sykora, RW, Anaheim: Once Rob got past picking Red Wings he made a lot of good/intriguing picks. Me - Saku Koivu, C, Montreal: I'm a big fan of guys who beat cancer and return to the game triumphantly, like Koivu has and Lemieux did in the past. Stefan - Steve Sullivan, RW, Chicago: Not horrific, but doesn't light my fire. Mike - Olaf Kolzig, G, Washington: Olie the Goalie. The Caps are supposed to be better this year...but aren't they always? Kolzig is big and stops a lot of pucks. Matt - Marty Turco, G, Dallas: I really like this pick. I think Turco is gonna be very good, and the Stars will win a lot. Nice. Winners: Everyone except for Mr. Pre-Rank. Losers: Stefan - character from a romance novel. Round 14 Matt - Sami Kapanen, RW, Carolina: Won the NHL's fastest skater competition one year. Has skills. Will travel. Mike - Tomas Kaberle, D, Toronto: It's long past the point where this seems kind of irrelevant. Does anyone really care what I think about Tomas Kaberle? He's good, OK? Stefan - Darcy Tucker, C-RW, Toronto: Darcy Tucker, Motherfucker. That's what I say. Me - Jocelyn Thibault, G, Chicago: Very good third goalie. Could have a breakout year... Rob - Robert Lang, C, Washington: Pens leaving for Washington...curse you all! I loved you, Langer. Our love has died. Riley - Michael Peca, C, New York Islanders: Late draft drama! Joe obviously wanted this good, gritty forward, but Riley thought nothing of his knee problems and yoinked him! Also gets special recognition because he's the only professional athlete distantly related to me by marriage. At least that I'm aware of. (Cousin of a cousin, never met him, probably never will. It's still really cool.) Joe - Mike Johnson, RW, Phoenix: Joe can't get Peca, goes with a Johnson. I couldn't pick this guy out from any UMCP student. G - Scott Thornton, LW, San Jose: Sure. Winners: I'm too nice to everyone...except Joe. Losers: That crazy Sutton. Round 15 G - Arturs Irbe, G, Carolina: Good pick, G didn't know he'd lose the starting job to Weekes early in the season, but he picked up Weekes anyway. Kevin Weekes is just one of the bleeks. Joe - Mike Ricci, C, San Jose: This is a win because I've know who he is and he's Italian. Riley - Marco Sturm, LW, San Jose: Shark, shark! Shark Attack! This shark feels like a maniac! Rob - Ed Belfour, G, Toronto: Eddie the Eagle has seen better days, but he's Rob's backup, so no harm done. Phil - Shawn McEachern, LW, Atlanta: Former Penguin, is a good player, plays on a bad team, will have a bad +/-. That's the rap. Stefan - Jean-Sebastien Giguere, G, Anaheim: Not to be confused with backup Penguin goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin. Both are nicknamed "Sea Bass" like the character in Dumb and Dumber, who was coincidentally played by a former hockey player, the rugged and relentless Boston Bruin Cam Neely. This is way too much info for all of you. Oh yeah, Stefan pulls a gem out of his ass. (Unlike most nights, where he pulls a rodent out.) Mike - Joe Nieuwendyk, C, New Jersey: Mikey Mike and New-in-dyke. Heh. Good match. Matt - Mattias Ohlund, D, Vancouver: I like last names that begin with "O." I like any name that begins with "O," come to think of it. Winners: One and all! Losers: None at all. |
