| Phil's Hockey Draft Views and Reviews. Yowza! |
| Round 9 G - Adam Deadmarsh, LW-RW, LA: Man, has G been drafting well. Getting Deadmarsh this late was a real coup. Joe - Mike Richter, G, New York Rangers: Well, this is the best Mike goalie in the biz. Has been for a long time now. Just hope that knee holds up. Riley - Andrew Brunette, LW, Minnesota: A tad bit early for this guy, but not enough to make this pick a loser. One of those picks. Rob - Teemu Selanne, RW, San Jose: Rob's best pick yet. G thinks Selanne got his name from his mom telling him, "Boy, I'ma Tame-U!" But that's just silly. Phil - Teppo Numminen, D, Phoenix: After ignoring defense for a while, I pick up two top guys in two consecutive mid-rounds. Hot damn I'm drafting great! Stefan - Byron Dafoe, G, Boston: If people knew much about hockey, they'd laugh at this pick, considering he's not on any team right now. It wouldn't be a "Bailey-Kitna" or a "Jamir Miller Oh God" laugh, but it would be hearty nonetheless. Mike - Brian Rafalski, D, New Jersey: This is a really good pick. Great offensive defenseman. If no one has noticed yet, it won't take Mike as long to get a win in this league as it has in the football league (hasn't happened as of this writing). Matt - Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Ottawa: Either him or Hossa from the same team is a good pick here. Winners: Everyone except for... Losers: ...Shingle Daddy. Round 10 Matt - Ed Jovanovski, D, Vancouver: JOVO-Cop! He's a rising defensive star. Glad I was able to pick him up along with Ziggy for Gonchar in a trade after the draft. Mike - Sandis Ozolinsh, D, Florida: Mike takes another great offensive defenseman. His team's gonna score like Arun at the salad bar. Stefan - Al MacInnis, D, St. Louis: Stefan's not worried if his point totals will suffer without Pronger at the beginning of the season. He's not even worried about getting the guy with the league's hardest slap shot on his team (why would he be?) But he is worried that they'll run out of donuts at Good Morning Commuters! Who wouldn't be? Phil - Marian Hossa, RW, Ottawa: Decision made easy by Matt taking Alfredsson. Hossa goes here. Hossa's Mamosas. Rob - Chris Drury, C, Calgary: As John Buccigross always says, "Chris Drury is clutch, and clutch is everything in life." He also calls him a "hockey god." I don't know about that, but he's good and his point total could rise from playing with Iginla. Riley - Bryan McCabe, D, Toronto: He's better than butter when all the fans go NUTTER! I don't really understand how good that is, but it's good. Joe - Mike Rathje, D, San Jose: Sounds how it looks. "Rath-G." Haha. Bad pick as usual. G - Alexei Zhamnov, C, Chicago: Well played, Mr. Broady. Well played. Winners: All ya'lls...not you, Joe. Losers: Joe. Round 11 G - Sergei Zubov, D, Dallas: Yeah, good pick, good pick. He's been good forever. G hopes it doesn't end this year. Joe - Mike Farrell, D, Washington: Yeah...I don't know who this is. Riley - Anson Carter, RW, Edmonton: Dancin' Anson Carter! Why the black man gotta be dancin'? It rhymes! He's a good player. Rob - Ryan Smyth, LW, Edmonton: Two Oilers in a row! What a day! Bonus points for unique spelling of last name. Phil - Ilya Kovalchuk, LW-RW, Atlanta: A rising young superstar. He's gonna score lots of goals. It's also great having a guy younger than me on my team. Stefan - Janne Niinimaa, D, Edmonton: Another Oiler. Good pick, Yahoo! Good name, too. "Nee-nee-ma." Mike - Owen Nolan, RW, San Jose: Another great name. Just say it. I think he led the league in goals a few years back. Matt - Alex Tanguay, LW, Colorado: This young man came up big in Game 7 of the 2001 finals. He's all right with me. Winners: You know the drill. Losers: Joe goes here. Round 12 Matt - Derek Morris, D, Colorado: If Morris was still on Calgary, he would have never went this early. But he's not, so he did. Mike - Cory Stillman, LW, St. Louis: This is the kind of pick...you know when a guy is a decent player, but for some unknown reason, you just don't want him? That's what he's like for me. Like Derrick Mason or Garrison Hearst in football. Stefan - Phil Housley, D, Chicago: Eh. Sure. Why not. Phil - Adrian Aucoin, D, New York Islanders: Thou shalt covet thine penalty minutes and ice time. Rob - Roman Hamrlik, D, New York Islanders: Hammer-lick! Solid pick. Riley - Adam Oates, C, Anaheim: He's ancient, he's on the verge of retirement, he's still leading the league in assists. He's Adam "Hall and" Oates. Joe - Michal Rozsival, D, Pittsburgh: Only a gimmicky team would select a Penguin defenseman. D is not the name of the game in da 'Burgh, friends. G - Scott Neidermayer, D, New Jersey: A very good offensive defenseman like his teammate Brian Rafalski. G, I shake your hand. Winners: Almost everyone. Losers: Not Joe and Mike. Sorry, Mike. Stillman is shady to me. |
