| Round 1 G, Jarome Iginla, RW, Calgary: Mr. Broady starts off the draft predictably, picking the best brotha (and possibly best player) in the league, Jarome Iginla. Joe, Mike Modano, C, Dallas: Joe takes Modano with the second pick...I think it's too early for him, but he obviously has a plan, at least that's what he says. Riley - Todd Bertuzzi, LW-RW, Vancouver: Riley goes with the powerhouse of a man, Todd Bertuzzi. He can play both left and right wing in the Yahoo league, which is part of what makes him oh-so valuable. Rob - Curtis Joseph, G, Detroit: Rob comes out of the gate with a Red Wing, the new goalie, CuJo. Can he duplicate the Dominator? We shall see. Solid pick, but I would have taken another goalie first... Phil - Patrick Roy, G, Colorado: Roy is king. He was first in goals against average last year, and he'll be a top guy for wins. Oh yeah, he's probably the best goalie of all-time. A steal at the five spot. Stefan - Brendan Shanahan, LW, Detroit: This isn't really Stefan, it's Yahoo! In Yahoo! Stefan trusts. It will do him wrong later. No matter how he likes his women. (Hint: Same as his coffee.) Decent pick, Rob's probably a little upset. Mike - Markus Nasland, LW, Vancouver: Mike goes with Markus, goal-scoring machine. A fine pick. Matt Hartman - Jaromir Jagr, RW, Washington: If Jagr cares, and stays healthy, he can lead the league in scoring. One of the greatest pure talents in NHL history, and a great pick to end the round. Winners: Everyone Losers: Nada Round 2 Matt - Jose Theodore, G, Montreal: Matt bolsters his team with last year's MVP, and one of the league's best goalies. A great start for him. Mike - Mats Sundin, C, Toronto: Mike goes with more than one player, taking MATS. More than one Mat. They're pretty good, big with a scoring touch. Stefan - Keith Tkachuk, LW, St. Louis: Well, at least he's got his left wing space filled up, which might be the weakest overall position. Sure. Phil - Joe Sakic, C, Colorado: Sakic should have went in the first round, as he's always a threat to lead the league in scoring. I got him here and celebrated mildly. Rob - Brett Hull, RW, Detroit: Rob loves the Wings, but this is just too early for the Golden Brett. Riley - Evgeni Nabokov, G, San Jose: Riley gets a great goalie here to give him a solid start to the draft. Joe - Michael Nylander, C, Chicago: It now becomes clear very early that Joe's masterplan is to draft all guys named "Mike" or a variation of it. Why else would anyone draft Nylander in the second round? G - Sean Burke, G, Phoenix: Sean Burke got really good in his old age and no one knows why. G doesn't care to explain the mystery, he just wants results, dammit! Winners: Everyone except Rob and Joe Losers: Rob and Joe Round 3 G - Ron Francis, C, Carolina: G takes another golden oldie. Francis will get you plenty of points and he's got a stare that makes you wet yourself. Joe - Mike Comrie, C, Edmonton: Yeah, I can't explain every pick about how he picks all Mikes. Comrie's good, but not 3rd round good. Riley - Pavol Demitra, C, St. Louis: I think Yahoo! has Demitra ranked a little high, but it's already evident that Riley did his homework. Rob - Sergei Fedorov, C, Detroit: Sergei is very talented, and he should beat the crap out of Enrique Iglesias for dating his Anna. Phil - Peter Forsberg, C, Colorado: Are you kidding me? 3rd round? Yahoo didn't have him ranked as high because he missed last season due to lacking a spleen. However, he came back in to lead all playoff players in scoring. I celebrate wildly. Stefan - Peter Bondra, RW, Washington: Bondra always scores lots of goals. Stefan's like, "I gotta study." Mike - Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey: Mike gets the ironman Brodeur, who always plays tons and wins tons as well. But a Flyers fan selecting a Devil this early? Whatever! Matt - Joe Thornton, C, Boston: He's Joe Thornton, Joe Thornton. Got real big on burgers and fries, now he's down to a smaller size. Wait, that's Clay Henry. Joe Thornton is better at hockey, and he's no Subway tool. Winners: Everyone except Joe Losers: Joe (This may be a theme) Round 4 Matt - Alexei Yashin, C, New York Islanders: Good pick, not much to say, but he does have a hot wife. Mike - Bill Guerin, RW, Dallas: Apparently Mike likes to pick guys that nail teammates with sticks in the head during practice. That's the way Mike is. Stefan - Jason Allison, C, L.A.: Stefan gets a big strong center, but he's too busy going, "I've got a test! Sweetpea!" Phil - Alexei Kovalev, RW, Pittsburgh: Not only is he insanely talented and one of my favorite players, but I own his jersey. Reason enough to make this a great pick. Rob - Nicklas Lidstrom, D, Detroit: Lidstrom is great, but it's too early to take any defenseman. Even Rob Blake. Riley - Paul Kariya, LW, Anaheim: Riley gets the talented and injury-plagued Kariya, but he's been healthier lately. "He damn well better be," Riley said. Nah, he didn't say that. I made it up. Joe - Mike York, LW, Edmonton: Too early for the speedy York, but I'll give it to Joe because the young man has skills and could really breakout this year. G - Theo Fleury, LW, Chicago: G seems to like Fleury for some reason. Maybe because he's the league's smallest player, but he's always yelling at someone or giving them a cheap shot. Maybe because he's an excellent goal scorer. Whatever the case, he's in rehab for substance abuse again, and who knows when he'll return. Winners: Everyone except Rob and G Losers: Rob and G |
